GH2vk breakthrough soon...?

FWIW I think Vitaliy will be making the latest PTool available once the site comes back up. At least that is what he seemed to be hinting when asked about its availability. So, for those of you who think Panasonic hijacked him....it's nowhere near that. This outage was planned.

Call it what you want I suppose, but it sounds odd to me. Why break the chain started with the GH13? In that vein, GH23 makes more sense to me.
 
The GH13 was name as such because at the time Vitaly was known as "Tester13". So having a vk suffix does make sense in the same regard

it doesn't roll of the tongue easily for me either, especially when i want to brag aboug it =) each to their own i guess. I will call mine GOD.
 
No offense to anyone, but in my book Stalin is equivalent to Hilter. I wouldn't want to attach Hitler to my GH2.

Yes, I realize it is a reference to Vitaliy, but that was not my point. The point is that there is already a established naming convention for the hack, so why mess with it an create confusion (GH2vk is not intuitively connected to GH13) and fragmentation (some people calling it GH23 as previously coined, others calling it something else, etc.)?

But like I said, call it whatever you desire. I'll call it GH2cool. How's that? :)
 
I was under the impression that the last ptools release cracked the GH2, and now everyone would be on to making patches. So why are people waiting for another ptool release? Or have I missed something?
 
There'll undoubtedly be more available parameters for tweaking bitrate and encoder behaviour, but Vitaliy reckons there'll be a noteworthy breakthrough in the next update. You should go to his website and track the hack's progress..

here a go for my friends in the PAL-Europa: stable 34MBit 720 50p, average 23 MBit (Weather conditions: Cloudy sky - i think by sun at even higher), B-Frame. see you
(for my US-Friends: The settings can also be used for 60p! no Problem . . .)

I am not a hacker, so the naming convention established for the hacked GH1 does not interest me (nor the GH1 for that matter). GH13, GH17, etc don't mean much to me in terms of versions, they're all the same hacked GH1.

From a branding standpoint, I'm incline to think that for most users/non-hackers the multiple version names actually cause more confusion and dilute name recognition...not that anyone is interested in branding the hack...but if I was the hacker (read: Vitaliy K) I would be interested in creating the best brand possible for my product that potentially many many people are interested in.

GH2vk might not be intuitively connected to GH13 but why does it have to? Two different cameras, two separate brands. The GH2 hack should stand on its own. I don't want my GH2 to be connected to the GH1, yesterday's inferior technology.

I'm not advocating for GH2vk or whatever, to each his own, but GH2vk is easier on the eyes, visually interesting, easy to say, easy to type, and has a story behind it, like GH13 has a story. GH23...is that two three or twenty-three? two point three? GH23 is prime...? uhh let me look up what a prime number is and I will get back to you.

(Think of Apple: Tiger, Leopard, Lion. Think Red: Scarlet, Epic, Mysterium...cool names!)

Thanks for the test. I am curious how your settings would handle bright moving foliage and a clear blue sky, on various under and over-exposure settings
