40FPS burst... that sounds good. It would be great if it could do that continuously... 40FPS photo-quality videos, anyone?

If they don't give us live monitoring I will punch a baby.

Lol!

Yeah, if there's no HDMI out, I too will be upset.

We are pretty run and gun in what we do and live HDMI wont realy matter for us. Further more if your looking to use a GH2 as a B camera for the AF100 then im not sure how much someone would need HDMI out.

The only thing i want to see is ISO 6400, real AVCHD at 24mbp (as implemented in the HMC150), and 24p native in that order

Why? The only reason for the hack to begin with was to get rid of the MUD on the GH1. the rest is/was just icing on the cake. If the GH2 doesn't have MUD then what's the point in needing a hack?

The hack gives us other very useful things:
Switchable PAL/NTSC (very useful for me)
Enably third party battery
Remove 30min limit in europe
Native 24/25p (albeit with some problems)

Of course, the GH2 might have any/all of the above anyway - but I suspect not, since they're all things Panasonic could easily have done with the GH1 but chose not to for various reasons.

So what's the announcement date on this? I presume it will be Photokina.
Specs look good, just hope it isn't interlaced output, though I doubt they'd actually do this??

And a much higher information rate..

Yes these qualities AND the bitrate!

I got the GH1 to be able to make small things for web and documenteries. But with the hack I all of sudden got a camera that could be used som much more and delivered really high bitrates. Impressing. I guess the GH2 will be like AF100 that is supposed to have a bitrate AVCHD 24Mbps. It seems like these cameras will underperform? Or am I missing something? But when you got at taste for higher bitrates .. you don't want to go back.

Maybe this has been discussed in this long thread ?

Anyway. Am I missing something? Should I find 24 Mbps ok?

Yes... 24 Mbps of AVCCAM is much much better than (if you had) 24 Mbps of the consumer quality implementation of AVCHD found in the GH1.

There are different varieties of AVCHD. The best, most efficient, and highest quality variety is the AVCCAM version on Panasonic's Professional line. That would include the AF100. It beats XDCam at 50Mbps.
The GH1 only has the inefficient variety of the consumer version. We essentially need to push the bitrate to the SDHC limit to get good quality out of the codec.
You can't really compare the two.
One is really good, professional quality and the other is...Let's just say it's included with the consumer cameras.

It is absolutely wrong.

AVCCAM=consumer AVCHD with higher bitrates

Under consumer I mean AVCHD consumer camcorders.

GH1 has very weak AVCHD encoder. Not because it is "consumer". But because it is based on LSI for photo camera.
All current encoders except Sony NEX and Sony new announced models use similar photo oriented LSI chips.

And this LSI problem will improve with the GH2? What will it mean in practice if we see 24Mb/s and triple LSI?

I am a technical noob so I will comment on the poster of the new GH2 from advertising aspect. Link: http://www.43rumors.com/ft4-panasonic-gh2-will-be-in-stock-by-end-of-october-advertising-leak/

As many guys here were worried about, GH2 will be marketed to average Joe. I have no problem with body only option, 14-42mm option, 14-140mm option as long as they give me more than one option. But here they put their flagship semi-pro camera on a poster with a cheap 14-42. I rather see a new lens, the 14-140mm or just the body (to show its potential) on that poster. AND why the £%^**( they use the same the bloody poster of the G2??? Same comestic but it shouln't be G2 blood brother. Or is it?

I agree. I have no interest in a 14-42mm lens. I want the 14-140, so if they don't offer it with that there is going to be a problem.

The question is what F stops are the 14-42 lenses? Are they faster than the 14-140? I would expect them to be. I would much rather have a fast 14-42mm than a slow 14-140.. there are plenty of slow extended zooms for much cheaper on the market already.

14-42mm is f/3.5- f/5.6 and the 14-140mm is f/4-f/5.8, so in practice the 14-42mm is a wee bit faster at 14mm and worse at the rest. I would still get the 20mm f/1.7. Also the 14-140mm should be specialized for video, don't know how specialized it is in reality though..

Ooooh I like the new grippy surface!

If it has the exact same control layout of the G2 though I will punch a baby...they moved focus modes to the top dial and put film mode (of all freaking buttons...it's easily accessible through Q.Menu) on the left arrow dial! This sounds fine in theory until you now realize that you have no way to manually activate the manual focus assist while using the viewfinder (you touch the screen to do it, which is nice because it snaps to where you want it to go but I use the viewfinder quite often. ) I think you might be able to map the FN button to it but I shouldn't have to!!!
