GH2 Rumors Thread

Because the GH1 was only released in June.

Yes, I know. And the G1 was released round about 1 year ago. Might they announce a new lumix without video? Look at the shown cameras at the countdown site. Why should pana show the GH1 + G1 there if they are not intended to bring out successors of these cameras? Perhaps not a GH2, but a better one than the GH1 :-). Ok, my crystal ball is pretty fuzzy at the moment - so, lets wait and see...

I'm sure it will have some sort of video capability even if it's only 720p at 30fps. I don't see any new cameras coming out without some form of video. Besides that, I think it will be the G1 replacement so more of a still camera/package but can do video.

i'm with William. Its unlikely panasonic will come out with an improved camera over the gh1 so soon. i'm gonna go with lens. i'd hardly gamble my time with any of those "rumor" websites. about 90% of them are bogus to build up ad revenue. here i'll start a rumor and pass it along so dvx can build up some money. panasonic's coming out with a 3d camera that's going to be 4909p with built in infinity storage.

g1 was released a year ago? weird. because it wasn't.

I'm fairly certain the GH1 was strongly, publicly hinted at by Panasonic in Dec. 2008.

The GH1 began being sold in late April 2009 in Japan. In the US, the GH1 was available to buy (but supplies were extremely limited) by mid-June 2009. Many other countries had it by May 2009. But true, it wasn't readily available in the US until Sept. 2009.

Meanwhile, since Micro Four-Thirds is no longer a new format for Panasonic, it's possible new models could be quicker to market. They don't have to invent everything from scratch.

My guesses:

Panasonic will announce & ship the replacement for the original G1, and announce but _not_ ship a replacement for the GH1, by PMA (mid Feb. 2010).

The new "GH2" will start being sold in Japan (and possibly elsewhere) before the end of March 2010.

A new "video camcorder" based on GH2 technology, but with XLR connectors & a servo zoom lens, etc., will be announced at NAB in April 2010 and start shipping about a month or so later.

All pure speculation of course.

I'm a little curious as to how pansonic launching a micro community website based around the Lumix G and L series cameras and hosting a website launch party got everyone thinking there is a new camera being released?

Definitely, might be right :-). Until now everything is based on rumors + speculations: http://43rumors.com/ft5-hot-panasonic-countdown-for-the-launch-of-the-new-microfourthirds-camera/

It could be completely unrelated, or it could be just one part of Panasonic's 2010 marketing campaign leading up to product announcements for PMA (and later NAB & Photokina, etc.)

Or it could be nothing at all.

I'd say that if this rumoured GH2 indeed has FullHD out over HDMI that's a pretty big frackin' difference as that means one could bypass the AVCHD 4.2.0 encoding and capture a much better file with a external recorder or even uncompressed with a computer.

Yep, the gh2 appears more "pro-related" and the g2 more for the average joe. Provided all these rumors are true... ;-)
