Is this place a scam?

Hey,

So I posted a thread a few days ago asking if I was about to get a good deal on a 2nd hand EX1. Alas the guy decided not to sell as he got some 'last minute work' in which is rubbish for me! The camera is real expensive over here in the UK and I'm looking at my options.

A quick google takes me here - http://www.digimiracle.com/proddetail.php?prod=67656554&source=froogle

I'd like to ask, this place is a scam right? I mean it's gotta be at that price right? And they don't seem to take credit cards.

I emailled the company, who are based in the states, about warranty, mainly to get some info, and received the following reply:

--
Thanks very much for your interest in doing business with us.
The shipping service will cost you approximately $130 The import taxes are not applicable and the warranty is valid in all EU countries including UK. Your camera will be shipped from Germany, we have a warehouse there for all our European customers.
--

Now, I'm not an expert on the EX1, but I thought that the warranty was country specific, not EU specific.

This website are listing the EX1 at about $5000 which translates to about £2600, versus the £4000 to buy the camera new in the UK. If it's the real deal then I'd be v. happy, but I'm thinking not.

What do you think?

I checked resellerratings.com and wasn't able to find anything. While it would be a great deal, I wouldn't chance it unless you find some solid evidence supporting them.

Yeah, I thought it was probably fake from the moment I saw the price heh, but it was listed in google/froogle.

Google/Froogle use paid listings and allow anyone to upload pricing information. It is becoming increasingly popular for scamming people.

Andrew, check out Expandore http://www.expandore.biz/product_list.asp
I got my EX1 from them. This is a reputable company in Singapore and quite well know in Asia. They ship FedEx or UPS if I am not wrong

i thought official suppliers were not allowed to send to different regions to stop people buying from all over the world - to do with it being ntsc & pal

the camera is going for no less then $6449.00 here in the States. Sony is regulating the price. you shouldn't have to pay any more or any less than $6449 for the camera itself. i wouldn't mess around with anyone other than an authorized dealer. that's a lot of money to be taking any chances.

Yes.
It is a scam.

Read over this thread before you send anyone any money:

This place is a real scam on another level up from Broadway Photo and the like - at least there, if you don't get the merchandise or it is not as advertised, you can reverse your credit card. At digimiracle they require you to go through e-gold - once the transaction is done it is not reversible and the fees for just putting money in an e-gold account are around $ 200. You could end up losing everything you pay for the camera with no recourse except to sue someone in Las Vegas (if they really exist). Caveat emptor!!

Yeah I sent them an email about paying with credit card, because at least that way you're protected so might be worth a punt, the reply was less than convincing heh!:

We process the transactions trough e-gold system because they give-us the
opportunity to avoid the business taxes perfectly legal, by this way we
are able to offer you the best deals from the market. E-gold is for you,
not for us because trough this system you have the possibility to buy a
brand new camera for a good price.
All we want is to offer the best prices for our customers. The e-gold
account is absolutely free and there are no obligations.
Please go to www.e-gold.com and open your free no obligation e-gold
account then go to an exchanger like

other from http://www.digimiracle.com/payments.php and fund your e-gold
account with $ Buy $ e-gold funds from the exchanger for
your e-gold account. When your e-gold account will be credited by the
exchanger then you will be able to make the payment to our company's
e-gold account. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact
us.

Yes, the e-gold account is free but I went to getemoney and they wanted to charge around $ 200 just to put the money into e-gold.

I tried putting an order through with digimiracle just to hear what they had to say when they called back concerning payment. I got an email back telling me to go to the payment section and put $ into e-gold. I replied to their email by asking them if they were really able to get people to plunk down 5 grand and have no recourse if the goods were never shipped. Got a one line email back stating my order was canceled.
