GH2 official discussion thread

I would love to see some HDMI captures too. If you have Cineform it may give you the correct options for capture. Using the capture software that came with the intensity was hit and miss for me but Cineform was great

Confession: I was set on not getting a GH2 and just keeping my gh13 as I saw some poor examples online, but after reading this thread and downloading some .mts files- I had to order one from japan today. Thanks to the people who have shared footage.

If this camera gets hacked, things are going to get real crazy.

Edit: this is the real reason I had to grab one (dream come true):

Isn't that strange that nobody has tested HDMI seriously yet, like recording the output and uploading some samples, checking what format (framerate, resolution, interlaced or not, color depth,..) you get precisely, given all the GH2 already in hands of several users? Nobody is able to tell if you can obtains 1080@24p (or better) from HDMI.. (while however, if I've followed correctly, one point for sure is that you can get icon free (clean) output.)

I'm also hoping someone posts results (and some brief, original files) of very carefully shot GH2 1080p24 HDMI recordings w/o on-screen text/graphics as soon as possible. In addition to 1080p24 external recordings, it'll also be useful to see recordings of other video formats, too, because not every project requires 1080p24.

Of course, if it ends up that the GH2's HDMI output is "only" appropriate for monitoring, but not external recording, I won't complain. Promise. ;-)

For me, buying a KiPro Mini instead of an external audio recorder might be a better long-term investment. Sure, the Mini costs much more, but it can do so much more (plus, like most external audio recorders, the Mini has XLR audio inputs). And a Mini will also "improve" most any other cameras I own or rent, too. But different folks may have different requirements & budgets. It's all good.

not sure it's the hardest moire test...

*btw, the building 3200 footage has significant specific place for a vertical *something* (don't know what you guys call it) across the lower part of the screen... not on all the rest of the 3200 shots though.. sometimes it's definitely there :(

thanks.. if you have some tip on further improving the color and film look feel free...

it's a bit wobbly isn't it? there's no real improvement in that section.. have to be very stable... it's a shame cause i could hand-hold it for run n' gun "not to worry about shakes too much" stuff...i guess wider FOV could help a bit..

Hey Roei,

Nothing to suggest other than possibly shooting in:

standard film mode
-2 contrast
0 color
-2 Detail
-2 NR

Other than that, your sharing footage is already awesome..

there are lots of modes. now there is "cinema" mode which looks ok. i'll test it by tweaking it : -2 contrast, -1 color, 0 sharpening (cause my fd lens are pretty soft) and -2NR.
all my tests until now were "cinema" 0 NR and -2 on all. i'll examine "nostalgic" and "smooth" later.

that's what i tested yesterday in my room:
http://www.mediafire.com/?87falcypd7s77br

the Japanese menu was tough to crack but i'm almost sure it was: native 24p, ISO200, 1/60 canon fd 28mm 2.8
edited cinema settings all -2 except that noise reduction i left on 0

does it look as bad as i think? am i doing something wrong?

Viewed it in Splash - lots of weird light flickering. Windows Media Player was *much* better, possibly best of all in WMC 64 bit (but only slightly better than Win media)

Seems a very low bitrate? around 8 - 9 Mbps, according to Splash)

you pay them and they buy the cheapest available and send it on DHL.

Hey roei z, I never bought international like this. Can you tell me the cons of getting through them, and is the price still $900. Thanks for responding so quick.
