GH2 official discussion thread

If you think about it logically, sensor is outputting 24fps, AVCHD encoder is outputting 24p, why should additional procedures add the 60i wrapper? How will this work for PAListan? Add the unusual 2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:2:3 pulldown?

In any event, Bloom already posted the following screenshot. Hopefully, this is one thing that will not change when the prototype goes into production.

That picture is a good sign. However, all of their documentation so far has left that ability out. Manufactures usually leave features out of documentation when it is iffy whether they are going to include that feature or not. Bloom's was pre-production, correct?

So do all PAL TVs support 1080p @ 24 FPS?

Perhaps it was a mistake or a typo. There were a bunch of typos on AF100 literature, even several moths after announcements. FWIW, 1080@24fps is in the HDTV standards.

Also I wonder what happens when you hook the camera up to an older 720p TV that does not accept 1080p @ 24 FPS and try to output the 1080p video? Does it just fail or does it fall back on 1080i?

It does indeed look clean. I'm however reminded of some early reports that GH2's overstates sensitivity ratings a la Canon, at least compared to GH1, by ~1EV.

You might be right here, but if not, this is very clean looking 1600, even after web compression.

the last scene with the lighter was filmed at 3200 iso if I'm reading the french properly

Google translate: The last shot shows its limits at 3200 iso is not quite there, everything else was filmed at 1600 iso and it's quite nice to see that the torque sensor / processor can finally compete with Canon video (maybe not the 5D or the 1D but it is not in the same categorie). In all cases at 1600 iso is rather good.

Will I be able to use the HDMI out and bring it to my macbook as an external monitor in any way?

computers generally don't have HDMI-inputs, so no, unless you use an external recording/tvtuner-type device.

(EDIT: normal desktop monitors with HDMI-in - or some other compatible input - can naturally be used.)

The BM Intensity looks to be a cool box, but unfortunately MacBooks don't support USB 3.
Well, not only that, but BlackMagic doesn't support USB3 either, unless you're using one particular laptop! I have a Lenovo with USB3, and was therefore very interested in the Intensity Shuttle and their external scopes products. But after googling around, I found that these products won't work with my USB3 system, so I sent a note to BlackMagic tech support to ask if there'd been any updates, and basically the response is that no, BM products are not compatible with the USB3 ports found on a motherboard that uses the QM57 chipset, so I'm out of luck. So I dug further and found that, today, there is exactly ONE laptop on the market that will work with the BM products -- the HP Envy 15. That's it. Not even the Envy 17!

So if you want to use the Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle, you'd better have an HP Envy 15, because that's all it will work with. And don't go thinking you can get an expresscard USB3 adapter, because it won't work with any of those either.

Really, really disappointing.

Well let the madness begin once more. I think I will have to wait til next year to attempt to pick one up. Until then I will keep using my GH13. Man I love technology.

Just held the GH-2 in my hands. Unfortunately, the people at Yamada Denki (electronics store) have once again proven to be completely useless and ignorant when it comes to service. No display and a couple in stock. After hassling the guy, he opened up the box, attached the lens and handed me it without a battery... well, thanks for nothing!! Had my card in my pocket to get testing as well... I will return once they've pulled their fingers out. :(
