GH2 official discussion thread

In MPEG mode the GH2 models on the Photokina had it for sure.
We will see what will be the end version of the GH2.

Well, let's hope they are listening. Can't imagine having 25p will be more than a software encoder tweak. Considering the GH2 at Photokina was a prototype, I would say there's a fair chance they will add it for the final retail version. Till then, we have to let them know that no 25p is a deal-breaker.

Panasonic should also add some more faux leather. It can't be that more expensive, but would add quite a bit in the looks department.

ENOUGH to make noise, I know someone in the Russian Panasonic to whisper in your ear! and intelligibly explain to him what the camera needs to be done in the final.
in November, will you all 25P, and they still have to solve the problem framerate 23.0895
And then relaxed loaves!

Many people have asked Vitaly can hack it or can not GH2
why do it on the forum? - There is always representative of Panasonic - once again, this representative will read and be displeased)))
no need to annoy them! I would generally advise moderator to clean this topic on such issues. friends try to think a head and not ...

GH2 firmware he used is version 0.3 only!!!

The same here, no 25p is deal breaker for me.
Too bad Panasonic don't want to pass through the avchd limits (they've done it with the tm700, haven't they?)
50/60p would be huge, but at least 25p would be a sale for me, and many people I know.

I don´t really understand that bitching + moaning about the lack of 25p. 25p isn´t part of the avchd specs and neither of the bluray specs. For me personally its much more important that this little puppy will have a really good 1080p24 mode with 24mbps with no banding and mud issues (and I live in a pal land). My only concern at the moment is this banding + flickering thing that is pretty obvious in that original footage I posted 2 days ago. I again noodled around a bit with that footage - this time a shorter bw-clip:

Easy, I shoot paying gigs with my GH1 and now my clients have come to expect me to deliver 1080 25p for showcasing on projectors and a very detailed looking 576p for PAL broadcast - 24p just doesn't work in these circumstances and for me to suddenly start deliver 720 files will not be met with enthusiasm. Omit 25p from GH2 and the camera is of no use at all for me and thus a no-buy. I really don't care a rat's a**e if it's not in the official AVCHD spec, GH1 can provide 1080 25p video with ease and so will AF101.

YMMV.

Ok - I don´t know the situation in Sweden. In Germany almost every big private tv station produces and broadcasts hd in 1080i50. And we have quite a lot of them. Only the major government stations broadcast in 720p50. But they´re about to change their decisions due to the fact that the most of international tv productions in hd are produced in 1080i50. But don´t get me wrong I´m not an opponent of 25p. If Panasonic can make it possible with an firmware update at a future time... it would be fine! But for the most users here in Germany (most parts of Europe) I see no compelling reason why it has to be implemented - be it for the everage joe or the pros...

Hi

Hi

Hi Martti, long time no see.... ;-)

Have the same problem: Recently used material from the GH13 when we had it set-up as crash-cam and for special shots where we would not want to risk a RED being blown to pieces in a firework. Actually we would not have risked an AF101 either would it be around. Too expensive.

In another project we used the GH13 in surroundings, where we did not want people to realize we where shooting plates for scenes we had originally shot with actors in front of a green-screen with the RED. A DSLR does not make people stare at your camera that much.

Probably Panasonic has still not understood that there is a "grey market" in semi- and real professional production for TV, where the GH13 fitted in perfectly and would not take business away from their broadcast products but rather be an useful accessory.

It's a pity they have abandoned 1080 25 p (There it is again: My bitching generator! <g>).

Absolutely, same situation for me and many others I suspect, The GH1 provides 1080 25p, the GH2 does not (so far) a simple but very fundamental loss for a section of users, but seemingly easy to fix, so MOAN people, moan away while any one is listening.... If people are finding it boring they can move along ;)

I absolutely abhor working with interlaced footage and has vowed to never again shoot a single (ie: divided) interlaced frame again in my life.
