GH2 official discussion thread

Absolutely, same situation for me and many others I suspect, The GH1 provides 1080 25p, the GH2 does not (so far) a simple but very fundamental loss for a section of users, but seemingly easy to fix, so MOAN people, moan away while any one is listening.... If people are finding it boring they can move along ;)

Yeah, and all that bitching is less bitching about 1080p50 which would actually solve both our problems.

But is it not highly likely that when the PAL version is released, it will have 1080p25 anyway? I mean, Japan is not PAL. The USA is not PAL. AFAIK, they haven't even released a final, working prototype of the JDM or US version yet. The PAL version will be finalized after, and it will be different (with the 30 min. limit and all that.) The specs released so far are almost certainly for the JDM & US versions. So they haven't officially told us what the PAL version's actual specs are yet. And it will most likely have 1080p25, since, as you all say, it's a no brainer anyway, no?

If they listen to us, yes. Otherwise no if the official specs on the UK site are to be believed.

I absolutely want 50/60p! But Panny may simply not do it for competitive reasons. 25p/30p are no-brainers - why downgrade from the GH1?

Seriously, shooting interlaced in this day and age on an 'enthusiast' camera is absurd. Sony have taken heat for it on their cams, and rightly so. Sure have the option for those that want it - but all modern digital displays are progressive (TVs & projectors actually have to deinterlace interlaced broadcasts).

I don´t really understand that bitching + moaning about the lack of 25p. 25p isn´t part of the avchd specs and neither of the bluray specs. For me personally its much more important that this little puppy will have a really good 1080p24 mode with 24mbps with no banding and mud issues (and I live in a pal land). My only concern at the moment is this banding + flickering thing that is pretty obvious in that original footage I posted 2 days ago. I again noodled around a bit with that footage - this time a shorter bw-clip:

Have it your way. Good luck mixing your 24p (23.xxx) footage with 25p 50i or anything else for that matter.

Sure, I'd love that too but your asking for an extra with 50p, i'm just asking for something that was already there with the GH1, simple. You can start your own 50p rant, we must pick our battles.

I cant remember if it was on this thread,or another or an interview, but was'nt the reason no 50/60p something to do with their tvs . They all have an sd slot so you can take the camera sd card and plug it in and view pics and vids Problem is that their TV's could not read 50/60p so that would go in contradiction to their marketing ....Do Pal panasonic TVs play 25p off the sd slot?

Anybody confirm this?

I have a Pana 46" and it plays 25p (50i wrapper) stuff straight off card, it's really cool.

25p and 30p were never offered on the GH1 (well, mjpeg@720/30p). On the GH2 you WILL be able to get 50/60P, just in 720 mode (which looks pretty good BTW, better than the GH1's 720 mode).

Please, do not post misinformation here.
GH1 shoot in 720p50 and 720p60.
As well as 1080p25 (either in wrapper, wich is pretty transparent or native with patch).

You might ask over at the AVS camcorder forum, a lot of them have the Panny TM700 which does 50/60p in an mts container, surely one of them could tell you

Well yes, technically you are right, the GH1 recorded off the sensor in 25p but then stuck it in that 50i wrapper. But 30p @ 1080 was never possible.

And? 25p is possible without wrapper. Plus 50i wrapper is transparent in any good NLE.
Post you are answered to reffered to simple fact that 25p and 30p is possible in GH2. And I can only assure that this can be done.

I have a Panasonic TX-P42G20 TV and it plays the rushes in AVCHD 1920x1080 25p 44mbps (progressive, not in 50i wrapper) of my hacked GH1 direct from the SDHC card in the TV SD slot.

Vitaliy, If the GH-2 one day is hackable, would you think the 3 core processor and faster SD cards to come could yield higher bitrates? I watched a video explaining how the Apple ProRes in the external HDMI recorder, records at 10 bit 220mbs. So currently, with the GH-1 people are getting in the 80mbs.

Since the GH-2 will have a better sensor, an extra core, and B frames, I find this coming year very interesting.

I am so looking forward to this camera. Can't wait...$900 is a steal as well..

100% agree...but I have mine pre-ordered with the 14-140 because the 14-140 on my GH1 is going on my AF100...which is also a steal.

Bet I can't wait more than you can't wait!
