GH1 Firmware Help

I have been trying all after noon to update my firmware with the newest hack, and for some reason my GH1 is having none of it. I have followed all of the instructions down to the smallest detail and yet every time I put the new BIN file on my SD card, put it in the camera, and then hit the play back button it says "No Valid Picture to Play" instead of updating the firmware.

I had no problem updating my firmware with the first version of the Hack.

Any advice would be appreciated...Thanks

Increase a version number in pTool...
And your firmware update should be named like this GH1__132.bin with two underscores...

I tried this with no luck. I am simply changing the number in the "save modified firware" to GH1__134.bin I have tried changing the last three digits many times and it still doesn't update.

You need to change version number in ptool ( in your case you need to put number 2)

I have also loaded the firmware upgrade. It converted the 1080 to real 24p, but I'm still getting low bitrates...17. What'd I do wrong?

that's not going to increase your bitrate, in fact it'll probably lower it. that patch is to remove pulldown only. look at the other threads for info on how to increase the bitrate.

And GH1__134.bin should always be GH1__132.bin

So you always save the BIN file as GH1__132.bin no matter how many times you update?

I'm having an issue updating. I get all the way to the part where I get the green progress bar. It goes about 1/4th the way across and then I get "turn the camera off and then on again" and when I turn it back on, the update didn't happen.

Any clues?

EDIT: I changed the file name to GH1__132.bin and it does the same thing. 1/4th through the progress bar and "turn off camera and turn on again" to find that it did not update.

EDIT 2: The old firmware shows 1.2. I can't even update to the official 1.32. Anyone have this trouble before?

yes, I even tried updating to the "official" 1.32 update right off of Panasonic's website. Same exact problem.

Here are my steps:

Check camera firmware version: 1.2
Download and extract BIN
format card in camera
put BIN on card
put card in camera
press play
when it asks if I want to update to 1.3, I say yes
progress bar gets about 1/4th done
get "turn off camera and turn on again" message.
Check camera firmware version: 1.2

battery was fully charged (fresh off of the charger) and I tried 2 different cards already.

EDIT:

Tester13 called it and I doubted but apparently he was 100% correct.

I borrowed another card (3rd one) from a friend and this one WORKED.

I don't know why my Patriot LX class 10 didn't work, neither did my Adata class 6.

My friend had the exact same Adata class 6 card that I did and it worked, the camera updated to panasonic's 1.32.

Now it's time to update to Tester13's firmware for testing.

EDIT 2: Tester13's firmware loaded OK.

Unable to revert to base firmware?

Unable to revert to base firmware?

After having uploaded (successfully) some new patches to a GH1_133.bin and then to the camera (mainly time limitations and higher audio rates) we've decided for the time being to reinstall the basic 1.32/Panasonic firmware.
However, even after having run the ptools program with just the "version change" patch we cannot load the program (even with a higher patch number).
The battery shows 100% load, and pressing the playback button only generates a "no valid picture to play" error.
Obviously something very obvious is staring at us but we can't seem to find the way out...

Appreciate any help w/ this matter!
Kind regards

Paul

P.s. obviously we uploaded the revised patch to the card after having cancelled the previous version...

Because if the power glitches or goes out, you'll brick your camera.

Plus, I haven't tried, but I think the GH1 won't allow you to do a firmware update if you're plugged into AC. Doesn't it warn you to only use a fully-charged battery?

No, it will upgrade firmware with the ac battery. That's what I always do...until now that is. I hadn't thought about a power outage. Thanks.
