GH1 Firmware Help

Thanks, I just subscribed. I will be looking forward to this video. May I make some suggestions?
I am a noob...SO maybe from doing the ptool to uploading the firmware to camera step by step. Thanks so much for this.

Take a look at the video below when it is done uploading and then just try it for yourself. I don't think showing me putting the SD card in the camera and turning it on is really necessary.

The only hard part is knowing what options to select and the video shows the options I have used. uploading the firmware to the camera is as easy as insert SD card, turn the camera on, hit the play button, go up, and then click yes to install firmware. If your battery is fully charged and your version numbers are correct which the video shows you how to do the firmware will load correctly.

What is the last... stable patch that a class 6 memory card can handle?

Is there a patch with 1080p 30FPS?

Thanks,

Yes I will post one to Youtube and perhaps Vimeo tonight. I will post it in 1080p as well!

I don't think posting a hacked file is a good idea. It makes it too easy for something to go wrong and then everyone blames the person who was just trying to help out.

If they watch the video I am going to post and they still can't figure it out then hacking the firmware is just not for them.

I will do it in a similar style to this video.

A video tutorial would be so useful. Thank you!

Can anyone help??? I have a Japanese version of the GH1 and cannot get the firmware hack installed. It currently has 1.2, and I tried everything others have said, removing the lens, changing the version number in ptool by "2", naming the file 133, 134, the firmware is outside any other files on the sd card, my battery is fully charged, tried using only the AC adapter, etc. and nothing works. I can get to the page where it says "do you want to install version 1.3, and i say "yes", and I get a message that says "please put the battery back in" in Japanese. The whole menu is in Japanese, and that's the translation of what it says. (I speak/read Japanese btw).

At this point I'm at a total loss and am desperate for some help...anyone?

is this v1.3 that you are using the original panasonic v1.32 release or a patch? I did a thorough test to see how low I could go in terms of firmware and it seems that if you are at 1.2 your updated firmware if it is a hack has to be at least 12A (after 129) and above in the code. what version PTools are you using? The older 3.36 or latest one?

Move to 1.3 first with the official software?
What this will do is make sure you have the basics of firmware upgrade down first. For example, I've never been able to upgrade with a fully charged (original Panasonic) battery, only with AC cable thingy plugged in. Another typical error is saving firmware file without double underscores in the file name "GH1__133.bin"

Somehow we should keep track of these things. I never had a problm w/ the battery (original).

Vitality had mentioned never to use the AC cord when updating firmware.

I can only assume there is a greater risk of a power interruption (power outage or pulling cord out by accident), which would possibly lead to a bricked camera (if you interrupt the firmware update).

For this reason, probably a fully charged battery is the first option.

-EDIT- Here is the answer to my second question:

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=213773

Information about the new version compare option.

Basically, turns version comparing off the next time you load firmware.

A couple things. First of all, I'm not sure if it was planned to have no audio, but audio would make the video much better.

Second, there is a new 'version compare patch' that is supposed to be used (according to Vitally) but as a noob, I have no idea how to go about this the first time. Should I use the compare or the increment? The tool tips are sometimes helpful, but often way too cryptic.

Thanks!

??? new version is 15.06.2010, 13:31  is for GF1 - sorry

LOL, yeah, sorry, I didn't notice that that was a screenshot for the GF-1 and not GH1, and that the version compare disabler patch was that new. I'm a little less confused now.

Hi, long-time lurker, first post ...

Now that PTool is up to v3.51d (291110), i'd like to check on the "lower firmware number" issue.

I've searched for hours and the closest I can find is the Q&A from earlier in this thread:

... I want to START the versioning of 1.3x at 1.1x so that there's plenty of room before hitting the official revision number. ...

Is this possible?
... There's a warning been posted in another thread that it could be unwise to use the beta Ptool which disables versioning, to go back to an earlier version from GH1__132. So, as I understand it, any use of Ptool means that the earliest version of the firmware you can revert to is GH1__132.
... and ...

I did a thorough test to see how low I could go in terms of firmware and it seems that if you are at 1.2 your updated firmware if it is a hack has to be at least 12A (after 129) and above in the code. what version PTools are you using? The older 3.36 or latest one?

I have a Japanese GH1 with firmware 1.12. I've prepared a patched GH1__132.bin (using lPowell's "J" settings) and saved it as GH1__133.bin.
BUT, like Tesselator, I'd like to name it (say) GH1__113.bin to give some headroom in numbering.

Ozpeter's warning was in relation to PTool v3.36 (when version disabling was still under beta test). Now that version disabling is well tested, is it still dangerous to go below GH1__133.bin?

MR Fanny's comment seems to indicate that I should be OK to use GH1__113.bin (or at least GH1__120.bin) ... but I'm not sure what he means by "in the code".

Many thanks to anyone who can clarify this!!

EDIT:
Hmmm how did MR Fanny do that testing?
Using a HEX editor to change byte 0x070A to 13 gives a corrupt file error in PTool (not surprising, I didn't look for a checksum to tweak).
Using PTool with a version increment of 65505 changes byte 0x070A to 13, but messes with bytes 0x070C, 0x071C, and 0x072A. PTool won't reopen it of course, and although it doesn't give a corrupt file error those changes to the other 0x07** bytes worries me ...
