"Hi Brian,
I cannot comment on how or why people in other countries are starting to receive the GH1, yet we in Canada have not. We do expect this model to arrive late this week, but even then it has to pass our own internal inspection process before being cleared through our systems and released for sale. And, to make things even more challenging, we are only receiving a fraction of the inventory that we require, since this model is currently experiencing greater demand than our factories can supply. I wish the news was better, but unfortunately, it does not appear to be possible to meet your request since it does not appear that this product will be shipping until after the time that you would be require it.
I do apologize that we are unable to meet your request, but unfortunately this situation was unavoidable.
i just talked to the most helpful panasonic person ever. she said that (obviously) they are having a HUGE back order on cameras. and the shipment they got in yesterday was HALF of what they were expecting. yikes. and grrrrrr.
i told her I had a friend that had placed an order on the 23rd and one on the 26th, and the guy on the 26th got his but not the guy on the 23rd. i asked how this could be. she said this is how their system works:
the department checks all information to make sure theres no fraud. if there is ANY inconsistency with the account then they put it on HOLD. (inconsistency can mean ANYTHING, like say you just moved and the white pages list you at an old address, they put up a red flag) guess what. they won't look back into the red flag until the product is in stock. but they're gonna skip over you and send your camera to the next person on the list. meaning they might not go back into your account for a MONTH OR TWO because of the tiniest red flag. WTF????????
she said I had no red flag on my account, but Orchidthief, you might have a flag on yours if you haven't received it yet.
god, this sucks. i have stuff to shoot and i need to shoot it NOW. and NO, i don't have another camera to shoot it with. i shoot a bunch of stuff but i'm always having to rent or borrow, this is the first camera i'm actually BUYING for myself (just to pre-empt the statements of "well you shouldn't count on it, just shoot it with your Red One.")
sigh.
I'm Paul Gandersman. Ordered on May 27th. No Red Flags. No Idea When I'm Getting My Camera.
okay just dont use my name pleasethey'll cancel my order or something

its okay, i'm not mad at you AT ALL. i'm just beyond frustrated with Panasonic. I can understand delays in shipping as long as they're shipping in order. but when they screw that up..............![]()
I am confused, I ordered from Panasonic.com and the order is being handled by shopatron, what's the difference between that and Panasonic direct?
They are a middleman company that enables individual end users to buy stuff from Panasonic (and other companies) without Panasonic (or other companies) having to deal with sending out products, one by one, to individuals.
You place an order with shopatron and they put you in a database. Then, retailers (or distributors or whoever) in your region will send you the product whenever they get it. So, for example, if Best Buy has a relationship with Shopatron, you might get your GH1 sent from a local Best Buy warehouse. Best buy gets a ton of cameras from Panasonic, they go to their Shopatron portal, and basically have the sales already lined up there for them.
They don't have warehouses, they don't have orders in with Panasonic. They're not waiting for any product at all. They're not buying or selling anything. They're basically just an e-commerce database, business-to-business networking company.
"His business takes customers’ orders and places them on
“Confident Order Exchange” (Coex), an internet-based online
exchange where orders are taken up by a local retailer for
delivery or the goods are held in a store to be picked up."
