GH1 availability around the world thread

1500 Euro....1500 USD

Makes me wonder how much Panny wins or loses in the global currency market.

My order just shipped. Two GH1's arriving Wednesday!

(My order was placed May 26th, Panasonic Direct)

Damn what's up with this shipping ordeal??? My order was placed on the 23rd and I still don't have any info on when I'm getting mine. I even placed the order to be shipped next day!

Congratulations on yours nonetheless Solomon. Anyone in CA receive theirs yet? I've noticed that a lot of these shipping are to people in the midwest/east coast.

Panasonic is STILL not admitting that they are shipping cameras out yet.
i called today...again...and they told me that the camera isnt scheduled for
release until June 16th with an expected delivery date of June 22nd for me.

A shout out to my fellow Canucks. Has anybody heard anything from resellers or retailers as to what is happening? Seems like a kind of black hole up here when it comes to delivery dates. As I said in an earlier post the GH1 isn't even listed yet on the Panasonic Canada website. Best info I have is from a retailer in Grand Forks, B.C. who has stated that his shipment will be shipped to him June 23. Vistek is probably around the same time but maybe a couple will slip through earlier. Would love to hear if you've heard different.

I'm in California and I think I was one of the first US release camera arrivals. But I placed my order Mid-May.

Well I have to say I am not impressed with my retailer nor with Panasonic Canada. I contacted the pro division and in their defense the GH1 is a consumer product so their top brass passed the puck to the consumer division and forwarded my email. No news.
I have sent several emails to my retailer Vistek and heard nothing back in the past two weeks. Whiich I find unacceptable, how long does it take to respond to an email message asking a simple questions?
"why are other people getting their cameras in other places and I am not?" How long will it be? Can anything be done?"
I leave on Sunday for a two week shoot abroad and really wanted the camera to shoot a variety of "special" shots that it would be ideally suited to.
I guess I shoulld have just waited and bought it in the USA or Japan.

Darn it...Yeah I placed mine on the 23rd so I don't think should be any later than yours ad. As more footage turns up, the more antsy I get.

I called today and emailed as well and like abstract stated, they're claiming to not have started shipping the camera yet. Totally doesn't make sense because these boards prove that the camera has shipped. :(

i wish they would just be honest :(, i'm getting the same thing orchid, but i ordered on june 3rd so i know i will be waiting a long time.

Yeah it's a total bummer that we can't even get an estimated date on our orders. I think also the fact that they're feeding us a bunch bs about how it hasn't started shipping yet! Makes no sense cus a few guys here in the US have already received theirs.

Anyone have any leads on what's going on???

Yes, I find it extremely odd that they'd say they haven't shipped any yet. It's simply too easy to fact-check. I received two of them (one for me and one for my brother) last Wednesday. They must be aware that the internet exists.

Man now I wish I didn't wait so long, I was kinda hoping June would come and then they would be officially out and I could get one without all the bullshit, whatever, pre ordered June 4th, and the nice thing was since I didn't jump the gun I got to read over a full U.S. manual, and play with raw card footage, and do everything else while waiting, and then realized that yeah, it really was the camera for me.

Now I'm just hoping that some of the mud from the codec was caused by slow cards...gonna get a SanDisk Extreme III...better deal than the Panasonic ones, and pretty sure it will work just as well..50MB/s is higher than 17MB/s right? :)

unfortunately, its already been confirmed by a number of members that faster
cards do not help the mud issue. Kohli reported slightly better performance, but
he's the only one as far i know

For the millionth time, learn about bytes and bits people.

This camera outputs 17 Mb/s NOT 17 MB/s. 17Mb = 17Mbit = 2.12 MB (megabytes). Yes, as in 2 megabytes a second. As in the crappiest card from 10 years ago rate.

In other words I still find the claims that the highest end SDHC cards are required for good performance from this camera dubious at best. Kinda reminds me of the crowd that buy $7000 Pear Anjou speaker wire and swear that it improves performance.

I know the difference between the two, I just happened to have gotten my capitalization mixed up. jUst Be GlAd thAt wAs thE ONlY plACe.

I'd say faster cards not helping is....well that's bad news...the silver lining is that you don't have to blow money on a super nice, fast card.
