My rebate process went great...very smoothly...it was a little confusing, but they responded to me...8GB in 7 weeks.

Thanks to Veronica & Jan.

Only in america can we complain about free giveaways. haha
;)

It's not the giveaway, and I assure you no company is "giving away" anything with a rebate.

It's the process of having to jump through hoops that are nearly impossible to verify in order to qualify.

Then having virtually no recourse to defend the integrity of the process that you went through

You will receive a letter that will come with your HVX Book announcing this plan. Now we are still waiting for 384 people that have not completed the paperwork submittal. So think about it, did you send in a copy of your invoice? If not, dig out that piece of paer you printed after you filled out the on line form and send in your paperwork. All of the folks that have completed this process should get their book and a letter from me in the next couple of weeks.

Please note that the first 16 GB P2 cards do not show up until the end of May.

Hope that helps,

Jan

Excellent, except that I haven't received the book either and I sent the invoice fax in mid/late February.

Is this a typical delay span?

What's the REAL price????????????
I mean what does it really cost Panasonic to do these rebates?
In case of the free 8gb card, they probably sold another 1000 or more cameras in the U.S. (just a guess) because of the incentive of a free P2 card. So that's probably a few million dollars in revenue. But then they have to PAY another company to handle all the rebate offers and pay to have the cards shipped to that company or directly to the consumer. So I guess my point in all this is:
Why not put Barry's book and the free 8gb P2 card inside the box, just like they do with the manual, battery and accessories, and ship that box to authorized U.S. dealers to be sold at the retail price, thereby saving all the money they are paying to the rebate company and all the BAD publicity and dissatisfied customers.
Just a though for the next rebate offer!!!!!

Well I'm sorry, it looks like I started something. :)

I am grateful that Panasonic is being generous. I never got a free card, I bought my camera when it was more expensive and before the rebate. I only received Barry's book. (good book btw)

I knew the price they were selling the HVX at when I bought it. I wasnt tricked. The HVX is a great cam at an appropriate cost. Sure P2 seems expensive, but I knew that going into the deal. Since then I've only seen prices drop and things have gotten better.

Hell I heard somewhere on this forum they are giving 16 giggers for the 8gig rebates that have been delayed in processing. Sounds like an even better deal.

EDIT: That was this thread.... lol silly me

If anything I am grateful others are getting rebates to attract them to p2. This ensures that my investment in P2 will have a future.

That's about it for me. Bottom line: Panasonic does not owe us rebates. The cams were selling just fine before them. They are just trying to get P2 surges in the market to ensure we all have a reliable format for the future. The cards are free, and if anything the rebates are cutting into Panasonics profit. I don't expect camera manufacturers to sell products at cost. They need to make money just like the rest of us.

P2 prices were never secret and they have only gotten better. I dont see what the razzle dazzle is all about.

America and Rebates:

"One study found 45 percent of 2006 rebate offers were not redeemed."
- CNN Headline News

CNN had a piece on mail-in rebates a few weeks ago that stuck with me; here's the transcript:

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0704/02/cnr.01.html

You'll need to search the word "rebate" a few times until you find the story toward the bottom.

Essentially, (no surprise) most rebates are a "foot in the door" technique that result in a lot of free money to businesses. But I believe that when it comes to Panasonic, and something as valuable as the P2 card, they're fully aware that no buyer is just going to forget about the rebate.

In other words, few people are going to go through continuous hoops to get $5 back, but for a P2 card, the rebate company has no incentive to create unneccessary hoops as they know that each and every buyer will jump through any number of those hoops--and in the process make a dozen angry calls to their offices--so their incentive would appear to be in streamlining the process as much as they can.

As far as getting confirmation...yeah, a simple website where we could check in on would be a great, simple, and cheap solution (which someone mentioned earlier; what site was that?).

I love rebates. IMO, they are great for businesses (=better economy=better for us) and the consumer, as he/she gets savings based on patience and ability to follow-through.

Hello Jan.
I sent invoice and confirm paper 4/3/07 and they said my claim was
verified 4/6/07. Does this mean we will be seeing a 16gb card in late
May ?? The book is also a big reason to buy the HVX200.The help provided by this list is a lifesaver. thanks

In all fairness, I have the best of luck with rebates for more expenses items:

A MacPro, and MacBook.
Four Nikon Nikkor lenses.

Let so with a lousy ten dollar rebate.

This isn't about fairness. People who weren't even part of the rebate should just ignore it because ultimately it doesn't apply to you in the slightest.

If you paid 1400 for a P2 card and someone else gets it for free, as a way to motivate them into purchasing HVX200, so what?

You would have waited months just to be a part of the rebate? There's a lot that's "unfair" about technology and market research. An HVX200 in 1990 would have costed a million dollars. You get it for $6000.

I'm getting a battery with my rebate. I'll just buy the P2 card.

Sure it's about fairness.

Much of what is provided here and elsewhere that help drive early HVX200 sales were earlier purchasers who paid full price and then troubleshot the cam and reported here and elsewhere.

The rebate commenced about four months after the HVX200 starting shipping in quantity.

I never understood why companies reward new purchasers with incentives, but ignore long standing customers completely.

It has everything to do with fairness.

And obviously, early adopters are ignored.

It's a fact of life; but it isn't fair. It's business.

Knoxworth, 1990 was more than 17 years ago... these so called "rebates" happened within the same year... how much would a card or a battery or a camera REALLY cost if they were just bought and sold like normal human beings bought and sold stuff..

DON'T TELL ME TO BUTT OUT, I'M HELPING ALL OF US WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT...

I understand the economics and marketing of computer related gear, once you buy it it's already old.. i'm not saying it's "unfair" at all... it just seems suspect to give away something that's supposedly very expensive. Panny's the only one selling it for some reason.. I think they're taking advantage of us.. We hate monopolies here in this country, and that's as American as apple pie.

I'M SICK OF THESE COUPON AND REBATE GAMES..
(thumbs up to technology, thumbs down to the suits who market it)

Don't worry too much guys.. here in Australia we get zero support... I bought one of the first 20 cameras that landed with 2 x 8 gig cards at full wack..
That's $2500 each for the cards and $9000 for the camera...
No Barry's book.. no rebate... no discounts on upgrades to 16 gig...

In fact the camera has been sitting in the workshop for the past 3 weeks as they try and sort out a faulty head phone connection... it's under warranty but nobody from Panasonic in Australia wants to sign off on the repairs...

So I think you guys in the USA have got it good compared to us Aussies...

Cheers

PS... I'd just like to add that those of us who paid full price .. have driven the sales of this camera... I personally have put 5 people on the books for Panny by convincing them the benefits of the camera...

I probably steered about dozen or so.

But who cares.

It's business.

Thank You to the 1 (one) happy rebate person that replied.

To every one else stuck in my experience of bad rebates, thanks for backing me on this issue. I'm not looking for anything free. It was real money spent for these cameras. Nobody gave them to me. As part of the deal was books, DVD, cards and software. If you didn't get a battery or charger, you would be PO, because this was supposed to come with it. There's no difference. You say they comes with it, that's part of the price.

Not saying if you buy today and next month there is a better deal you should get that. Yes we all need to make money, yes we all want good deals. Part of the decision to buy anything is what comes with it. Y not put this in the box or give it to the authorized dealers? Why do I have to waite for 384 other people? What does someone who throws there check in the trash have to do with me? I didn't gree to a partnership with these people.

Bottom line, I agreed to pay Panasonic so much money for a camera that came with books, software, DVD and/or cards. This was the deal ( contract ) and I fulfilled my end of the deal. Almost 20 weeks later, is more than enough time for them to fulfill there part.

They could offer a rebate tomorrow offering one free HVX with the purchase of an HVX.

Most people would complain about how its bullshit they didn't get that same offer. especially when they did so much work with word of mouth. New customers are always king, you know that. So why do you still complain. Just to vent.

Vent away.

you don't get the point. even if I got the rebate tomorrow.. i still think it's seedy what Panasonic is doing. you still got to buy another card or a third card at double or triple times what it costs to make it...

JUST LOWER THE PRICES, QUIT THE MARKETING BS.

nothing's free, except my advice. haha.

As has been explained many times before, Panasonic US has to buy the cameras from Panasonic (Matsushita) Japan. The rebate program provides a "value add" that can only be delivered directly by Panasonic US to the end-user customer. By doing that, Panasonic US makes a big dent in the grey market product brought into the US. Lowering the wholesale price of the product would not have the same effect, as most likely the price would be lowered worldwide, continuing to create a grey market for cameras sold elsewhere, in different economies, where local market forces require and/or permit different pricing structures.

It isn't nearly as simple as you make it out to be, and I think Panasonic US is to be applauded for the very customer-focused programs they have made available to us as end users, including Jan's participation on this forum.

As for David S. I too have issues not receiving rebates, DVX and HVX, not the rebate itself. Yes ACB is undoubtedly very busy, no dought about that. And I'm sorry to hear about all the people who throw there checks away and the ones that can not follow instructions. SORRY. "I know it is human nature to think that your experience is everyone's experience." Wrong. I'm not asking for special treatment or help such as replacing a check I trashed. Just what was advertised. A REPLY to the Emails (AS IN MULTIPLE EMAIL) at very least.

But more specifically and to the point. Why can't they answer the phone? Return calls? Reply to Emails? Do they need more help? Really, busy is no excuse for poor performance! Lots of busy people here as well, producing quality products. And if there is an issue with even one. It is dealt with in a very timely manner. NO EXCEPTIONS. I still answer the phone and reply to Emails myself if everyone else is busy. NO, I am not perfect, so don't argue with me about it. Not asking for perfection, it takes second to reply to an Email, even if your slow like me. I manage a couple hundred a day. If this is mean or hurts anybody's feelings, again sorry.

But this is way off the point. Back to my last post, lets hear some good rebate stories, please.

My rebate experience was as smooth as could be.

I ALSO WANT TO ADD, THAT IT'S ABSOLUTLEY OUTRAGIOUS TO CHARGE $1300 FOR A CARD AND THEN TURN AROUND MONTHS LATER AND GIVE IT AWAY FREE.

THAT'S REAL MONEY FOR ME, NOT MONOPOLY MONEY, YOU COULD HAVE MADE THE CARDS ALOT CHEAPER. I READ A LOT OF DISCUSSIONS AS TO WHY THE CARDS COST SO MUCH AND TO SEE THAT YOU'RE GIVING THEM AWAY FREE BC OF SOME BS GREY MARKET BLOCKING PLOY, IT INFURIATES ME.... THAT YOU GUYS MADE A HUGE HUGE HUGE PROFIT OFF THOSE CARDS. yes, i'm yelling. bring this message to your boss Jan, it's total BS... those cards should have been way cheaper to start with...

AND NOW YOU'RE GIVING AWAY $900 16 GIG CARDS, HOW MUCH WOULD THEY REALLY COST IF YOU WEREN'T GIVING THEM AWAY?

ENOUGH WITH THE SHENANIGANS.

So you fancy yourself as the Panasonic pricing expert? If you don't like the price then it's simple, buy another camera. Yes, the audacity of Panasonic to price a profit margin into their products is truly criminal.

And yes that is simply and truly outrageous, to give a $1300.00 card away for free...Those Panasonic hucksters, why I outta ....
