GH1 availability around the world thread

If any of guys want to sell yours to me, I will sell mine to you when it comes in 2-4 weeks. I need to use it to film and photograph in Central America pronto. I'm a lawyer so I can draft a agreement that will be rock solid (that each can take to court if either cheats, which of course i don't assume), each will get a brand new camera, just you won't get "yours" for a few more weeks. I can have the delivery redirected to you or send it directly to you after receiving it. Or I can purchase from you, and you can make new purchase. Can any of you guys wait a few weeks or are you all desperate to get the camera like me. haha. Thank you. Dave

Wtf.... I've had my order in at J&R since 5/4 and they are not sending ANY to them?? WTF!
 
I caved in and just bought the damn thing. Great, now I'll own 5 cameras that can do video, and all of them different.

I blame you DVXusers, all of you.

I'm actually quite giddy about the situation. :)
 
WTF. J&R is now telling me JULY. I feel like I've been scammed. Now it's off to panasonic direct to get to the back of the line. crap crap

i thought about ordering from one of the resellers, but then I thought, well it comes straight from panasonic right? so rather than going Pana-resller-me, i just opted for Pana-me. Seemed like it would make the most sense :/ I placed my order on May 27, if May 24 ones have shipped..... i should be soon :) :) (also my order status still says preorder, and I have not yet been charged).
 
I went straight to Panasonic as well. I figured it straight from the source would be fastest as well. Unless B&H bought all the remaining stock yesterday.

Who really knows what's going on. As I mentioned in another post, I cancelled my pre-order at Panasonic.com back on 5/26 When I called to cancel, they had no idea that it was a pre-order and also thought that it might have already shipped to me. This wasn't just because the person was hypothesizing, it's because their informational computer system didn't show it as a pre-order as it should have. The woman was sure that it wasn't a pre-order.

Over the last couple days people have reported panasonic telling them a wide variety of things. I'd take it all with a grain of salt. If I had to bet, I'd bet that those who were told that their cameras had actually shipped are probably in good shape. But with all the other (mis)information coming from people talking to Panasonic, I can't put complete stock in anything else.

In their defense, J&R have been saying July 15th for weeks now.

I called them about 2 weeks ago after somebody else on these forums reported the July 15th shipping date. When people started reporting that Panasonic.com was shipping I called J&R again they were still saying the same thing.
 
I guess I just assumed they wouldn't leave their retailers COMPLETELY high and dry. After all J&R was taking pre-orders before they were available at panasonic direct AND panasonic was pointing customers TO J&R on their website!

I agree and for everybody's sake, I'm hoping that they aren't leaving their retailers high and dry. I'm just saying I'm not sure that any of the information is correct, but nobody knows.

I did/do find it interesting that you can't pre-order the GH1 on B&H. I'm not sure what that means, but it seems like it means something and maybe it does mean that Panasonic is putting their retailers last.

Don't get me wrong, upshot, I totally feel your pain. TOTALLY. After hearing July 15th a couple weeks ago, I completely rearranged my shooting plans to NOT include the GH1. In fact, the only reason I still have a pre-order at J&R is because I haven't bothered to cancel it like I did with my pre-order at Panasonic. If I eventually end up with a GH1 then so be it, but with all the lack of information, changing information or misinformation about shipping dates on the GH1, I took my chips off the panasonic table. At this point it's just wait and see for me. If they suddenly become available online somewhere, maybe I'll still buy one.
 
Sounds like it is getting ugly out there waiting for a GH1. I am thinking I will be buying one in September or October, I hate waiting in line. I am the same way at buffets. Sometimes if you wait until the line goes down, they run out of food. Hopefully Panasonic will realize that a lot of people really want this camera and they can up the production numbers.

I just placed my order this morning and called the panasonic automatic order status checker number, the shopatron they call it. Esitmated delivery June 8th. If that's the case....awesome.

That's to Alaska too, usually things take a bit longer to ship here.

I ordered mine (PAL version) beginning of may in Germany at http://alles-foto.de for €1499 and received it today. I'm absolutely happy with this neat little camera. Just did some test shots and imported them into FCP, works without any problem. Of course, rolling shutter is obvious on fast pans, but the "panning mud" isn't as severe as feared. Even ISO 1600 is useable.

Got the 14-140 kit and am reading the manual, running out to test shoot and am managing to get some good still pix with nice shallow DOF but not in movie mode yet...

back to the manual...the menue structure is awesome! lots more than on my HVX and a lot of buttons to watch out for....been accidentally touching all sorts of buttons...this thing is crammed! But I am already seeing what Kholi was so happy about ;-)

I was hoping to be able to use it sort of hidden but the 14-140 lens drags it downwards.

Spent the morning traipsing around Tottenham Court Rd seeing if any local stores had one in stock, but no joy, just some vague replies like "Maybe next week" or "Two weeks time".

Didn't think to call Warehouse Express, more fool me for trusting their stock update to actually be up to date...

Hi, GH1 available in Nantes - France at Camara's shop in pre-order with a special kit price : GH1 + 14-140mm + Microphone + bag for under 1499 euros. It's unbelievable but I forgot the price! :-S I'll get more info in a few hours when shop open.

...not too worried about shipping, i choose the free shipping... but another order i placed on panasonic direct came last week within 2 days of ordering with free shipping (i guess a benefit of being in LA)
