GH1 availability around the world thread

I thought about a U.S. purchase too but after hearing of J & R's pushing back their release date to possibly July 15th I nixed that idea. If this is the camera you want order soon. There might be an availability issue to begin with.

Don't forget our postal service overpricing. Ordered the same item from Winnipeg and England. Shipping from England was 2/3 of the Canadian item and I received it 8 days before the other. Wassup with that?

Wow....So June 1st it is. Anyone else in the US have any leads on when this baby is gonna start shipping or arrive?

Have mine preordered with Panny and it still says June. With all this anticipation, can't wait.
 
normally i wouldn't want to use a camera for the first time on a planned shoot, even the dvx100b comes with terrible default settings, but after seeing philip blooms "out of box" footage, this camera looks like it will just kick ass from day one

You should give them a call and see if they can give you any more specific info.

Oddly enough, when I called to cancel my pre-order at Panasonic.com, they were confused when I referred to the camera as a pre-order. The woman with a sexy british accent pulled up my order and said that there was nothing indicating that it was a preorder and therefore she had to double check that it hadn't actually shipped to me before she cancelled it. Of course it hadn't shipped, but she certainly didn't seem to have any insight into the availabilty of the camera or when it might be shipping. Since I was cancelling, I didn't pursue it, but maybe you can get something more specific than "June" out of them.
 
For those of you who are counting on having a GH1 in your hands to shoot specific projects in June, all I can say is that I have gone through this with the DVX100, HVX200, HPX170 and to an extent, the Z-Finder for the 5D MKII. Don't delude yourself that will have it in time. You may but there is a very good chance you will not. This camera has a huge buzz here and elsewhere AND it is dirt cheap. Thos two factors mean that many people who want a GH1 may not have one until August or September even.

I had just made a pre order with adorama cameras (heard on this forum they were saying shipping this week or next) BUT got an email this afternoon saying it is backordered and that its likely to be 10-14 days on backorders (general info). These orders can be cancelled before shipping with Adorama. They inform you before shipping.

I called Panasonic Direct and put in an order. They only inform you once it ships. By then its too late to cancel. You can only cancel if you get to them before they ship.

It seems likely they will have the most allocation to me. They told me just June, no other specific info.
 
i just called vistek.ca the only canadian retailer i could find (googled it at least a dozen times, searched with price-grabbers too), and their sales rep took my name and information for a tentative order, and said i was behind at least 20 other people, and he said their system shows a shipping date of june 30th. i'm really hoping they're just saying the 30th, but will really ship sooner, because they know most consumers will go with the competition if they're expecting a camera and there are delays. not me though, this is the camera i need for this summer, and getting it in september would totally suck
 
i placed an order straight from panasonic this morning and it appears that they charged my card already. need to confirm this when i get home tonight

Hmmm...Interesting, I placed an order end of May and just checked my account, it still no sign being charged. I was hoping otherwise...I'm hoping that it was just charged today and therefore should be reflected tomorrow.

Anyone else?

i dont see how this is possible. i was told by a rep today that orders go out
in the order they were received. and since the cam is still in pre-order status
on Panny's site, i cant understand why you would be charged immediatly.

do you have an update on this for us?
 
Perhaps some people are being confused by a credit card hold/authorization. I too would like to know what the story is since Panasonic's webpage still lists it as a pre-order.
 
I placed my order mid-May. I got a call from a Panny rep today saying it was shipping (they needed confirmation of my credit card information). They said I'd have it by the end of the week most likely.
