16 GB Firmware Update May Be Now Available?

It seems to be at the terribly confusing Panasonic driver/firmware update site.

It is dated today

I downloaded it, but was wondering if a PC/Windows user can check that site and confirm it, because it is dicey in Safari and a Mac?

It says this: Content AG-HVX200/HVX202 to be compatible with 16GB P2Card

If someone with a Windows box could confirm this is the 16 Gb firmware update for the HVX200, that would be appreciated.

Yup, that's it. Big version number change, too, from V2.03 to V4.05. I checked the site yesterday and it wasn't up yet.

The only change mentioned in the release notes is support for the 16GB card, but there's about a 300KB difference in the size of the firmware images, and that seems like a bit much just to support the new generation of cards.

I'm running the update right now, but I would be surprised to see any differences whatsoever.

OK, my camera is updated and still alive. The only change I noticed is that at the bottom of the OTHER FUNCTIONS menu, the camera now displays the number of operating hours -- I don't think that was there before.

You don't need a PC to perform the update -- all you need is a multimedia card reader so you can transfer the firmware image to your SD card. The actual update procedure happens on the camera.

Thanks. I'm done a firmware update with a Mac download.

I was wondering if anybody has done this update on a Mac.

I found another new feature, there is a new time code display format.

If you press the COUNTER button to cycle through the time code displays, in addition to the "TC" format there is now a "tc" format (notice the lower-case name). I think the difference is that you can now display drop frame and non-drop frame time codes.

I found another one! The OPERATION menu in MCR mode now has a "REPAIR CLIP(LOOP)" item on it. Unlike the regular "REPAIR CLIP" item, it comes with a warning indicating that this may take some time, so I think it might perform a more thorough examination of the selected clip(s) with multiple passes.

I think we're gonna need an updated PDF of the manual...

Cool. Thoff finding the features. Might be nice if they put that in the release notes:) I've got it downloaded, just haven't had a chance to get it onto my cameras yet.

Later,
Jason

I did a 5 min test and everything seems on the up and up - the hour of operation meter is cool - the lcd seems to flicker a little different when switching between vtr and record modes. I will be doing a few more test to ensure that it is rock solid for a shoot coming up.
