BTW, yours is a great example that customers should exercise their buying power when an occasion clearly calls for it. With some people reporting that sales staff at another NYC retailer don't have "any way of telling the warehouse to ship a GH1 with a serial number from a specific serial range)", it should be known there is another retailer that wants or cares about business enough to honor that request. Also, sometimes a little bit of "pushing" is required -- these are NYC retailers we are taking about ;)

I purchased a GH1 from J&R this past Saturday 8/7 when the price dropped, and I'm glad I jumped on it. Received it today with serial WE0ADXXXXXX. I went into the menu and confirmed that both body and software are at firmware version 1.2

I have not applied the hack yet, but I'll update once it's been successfully done.

I hope this helps people on the fence about ordering from J&R, even though there is no guarantee, it still means there could be a good chance at getting one from this batch.

UPDATE: Successful hack. I was impressed with stock performance but I am blown away now (I am testing Ipowell's settings- thanks. I'll update my findings to that thread later.)

I can now visit the donation page- u rock T13.

but the owner says when i pushes down key + videomode key it displays V1.3 ...


so will hack work on this or will it not work ?

i read that the locked firmware models were released in june so serial has to be WE0F... or WE0G... for not hackable bodies right ?

so from serial side WE0E... should work, but why the hell is it V1.3 ?

but V1.3 can also be V1.32 right ?

just updated to 1.23(from french version), but ptool cannot use with that, sadly
 
just found a japanese version with loaded 1.2v.
the seller says the menu is japanese as well.
can i convert the language to English with the hack?

just want to make %100 sure
 
I also just got my GH1 (9 Aug 2010) from NY, USA. Serial WE0GD......, it failed to recognise the installed hack firmware. I've tried to rename the firmware file like GH1__140.bin but it still came back a fail. I did check both the version increment and compare. Should i try any other combination of settings?

Has anyone tried to continually increase the firmware file number like GH1__160.bin or so until it worked?
 
Just a thought. It took me a few tries before I got the GH1 hack to install (an older serial) but it did have the May 10th Panasonic firmware installed.

If I remember, the first successful one was with Version increment ON with an increment to take it one past the Camera's version indicated in the camera menu. Prevent version compare was off that time.

The Next update had increment set to one higher than the first update and I also had Prevent version compare turned on this time.

All following updates had Prevent version compare turned on only.

I think the key thing to remember is the prevent version compare setting you are putting in will be acted on for the NEXT firmware update, this update just sets it up.

I have a made in Japan GH1, Ver 1.34

The Hack does NOT work.

Serial number is:
YW0FF001011


(YW0FF001011 indicates a June 2010 build)
 
Just ordered mine a few days ago, serial is we0fd0012xx :(

So here comes a few questions:

1/ With newest GH1/firmware, is there at least a tiny improvement from early GH1/firmware (2009) concerning mud in 1080p ?

2/ Do we know if 1.34 is an anti-hack firmware or simply a yet-unreleased firmware ? Has it been dated ?

3/ Dumb question but, has anyone tried 1.32->ptool increment +3->1.35->patch ?
