GH1 and GF1 valid serial range

Edit:- Many Questions are being posted in this thread by people not even reading this first thread. So, here is a summary of Qs.

1. I have a serial no. XXXX.... Will the Hack work ?
a) If you have a serial such as a XX9XX.... i.e. 3rd letter is 9. It will work. Otherwise, the following combinations will work. XX0A.... , XX0B.... , XX0C... , XX0D.... , XX0E ....
XX0F MAY work - but its not worth buying in this range.

2. I have to buy blind i.e. I cannot see the serial. How can I increase my chances of a hackable body ?
a. Buy the Gold body, and if not available, buy the Red Body. These are the colors that most people DO NOT buy, and from the posts of people in this thread, they seem to work.

3. I got a firmware in range - but I could not flash. Can you help me ?
a. You are making a mistake. Go through the steps again. Have you ticked the appropriate settings in ptool ? Have you actually copied the right firmware on your SDHC card ? Have you pressed the Play button to enable firmware update ?


In this thread, I will be collecting information about the serials that work and dont work. Hopefully we can collect information and decide the serial no cutoff.

RESULTS :-

Look at the serial on the camera.
Further, it seems that the combo of the 3rd and 4th characters give the year and month.
0F indicates June 2010
0G indicates July 2010
9J indicates October 2009

In some cases, S seems to be used for September, so
0S indicates September 2010


So 0G, 0H, ... will not work
0F may work

anything lower than 0F will work and all 9X will work.



First check the service for the exact firmware version using instructions from this post.

Temporary service mode:
1) Non-empty SD card must be installed
2) Check that single shot mode is selected.
3) Before trning on camera press:
a) DISPLAY+FILM MODE for G1 and GH1
b) DISPLAY+AE LOCK for GF1, G2, G10
4) Turn on power.
You must see ROM BACKUP option in settings menu.

Error code table in this mode:
1) Press left arrow + MENU/SET and hold them, plus press
a) FILM MODE for G1 and GH1
b) DISPLAY for GF1
c) AF/AE LOCK for G2 and G10

If you repeat error code table method one more time for'll be in CAMERA INFO screen.
Pressing Display will show you CAMERA INFO 2 screen.

If you see version 1.34 for GH1 or 1.24 for GF1 the hack will not work.

The third number in the serial seems to be the year of manufacture, so 9 will work and 0 may or may not work.

For GH1 these seem to work
WE9XXXXXXX

These may or may not work.
WE0XXXXXXX

These may or may not work
FS0XXXXXXX

First two letters must represent factory and production line.
As Japan bodies seems to have serials started with F and Chinese ones with W.
Please post ONLY if you have a serial > than what I have posted. Let us know if the hack works or not.

I recently purchased 2 x GH1, REd and Gold version from Ebay supplier in Taiwan..
Both took the hack no problem..

Serial numbers:
FS0AD001145, 1147

GF1 FV0GC1020XX DOESN'T WORK

And in the service mode :

VER 1.24:0000
NO.: f9110070901XX (looks like it was manufactored in 2010.07.09, bought last week)
 
GF1 FV0FC1015XX DOESN'T WORK
Bought on July 24th in Taiwan, Japaness language interface only

VER 1.24:0000
NO.: F9110061700XX (looks like it was manufactored in 2010.06.17)

GF1 FV0FC001046 WORKS!

Bought exactly a month ago in Japan, was able to change the language and hack the camera
 
you should post not just the serial # but also the DATE when you purchased so that we can correlate the serials to dates and see if there is a correlation
 
well, between me, JoeJitsu, and Homonculus...the "WE" in our SN's, it's coinciding with purchase dates...we bought ours at around the same time
 
good observation chris light. it goes WE9 for all 3 of us. WE9J, WE9S, WE9K.

but how do you know when joe jitsui purchased his, I don't think he posted the date of his purchase, unless you know from a previous thread.
 
You may be onto something there svecher.

WE9S GH1, Purchased October 2009, Panasonic AVC Networks Xiamen China, made in China. Lets see some serials where the patch doesn't work.

Well this confuses things a bit. Are we sure that those that are not able to hack their GH1 are just not doing it correctly? Just something you might want to look into in case it is just a missed step in the hack.
