GH1 and GF1 valid serial range

This is truly heartbreaking. After having an awesome experience hacking my GF1 I picked up a GH1 today without reading the forums first - and low and behold - firmware 1.34.

I am so sad. I am praying for a workaround.

He bought his from Amazon july 6th, I bought mine 21st July from Currys online both in the UK. Currys was out of stock for about a week before I purchased, its out of stock again.

+1 for Currys and 1.34 firmware not being able to use the hack!

A big thank you to everyone who has reported working/non-working serials.
Bought the last GH1 in stock at the local shop today after checking the serial.

Serial was WE0EDxxxxxx and, as expected, it worked.
 
Bought mine last week in UK, Serial WE9FA. I haven't hacked it yet but expect to be able to as firmware shows as the earliest 1.0.
The camera was the last in the store as it was the display model and had been locked in a glass cabinet for 6 months at least according to the sales staff.

After the first two letters, it looks as if the numbers and letters increase in a similar way to hexadecimal with zero higher then 9, so it would appear the cut off is somewhere after WE0Fxxx

Mine was also purchased at Currys, but actually in the store, not on line.

what's the diff between temporary and permanent service mode? will both of them display the firmware version? i'm sending these instructions to a friend who will be taking delivery of the camera for me today so i want to make it as easy as possible for him to follow.
 
^ yep, we'll check the s/n first but just in case it's one of those s/n that is a maybe i'd like to verify the firmware is good or not.

i'm not gonna ask him to apply the hack, just want him to check the firmware. do you know if it's temporary or permanent service mode that i have to enter?
 
AWESOME!!! I'm one of the ones who is obviously just doing it wrong. Is it wrong to feel excited about that?

Here it goes:

GH1 purchased July 20th,2010 from B&H S/N WE9Lc00... and firmware (using Vitaly's explanation of finding the firmware) is 1.32

So does this look like I should have been able to able to hack it? I tried again and again and only ever had "native freeze every time. If so, I will film myslf re-installing and maybe a compassionate soul will take pity on me and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

"native freeze every time? What does that mean?

Did you make sure your battery is fully charged?

And yes - your serial number is in range and should be hackable.

I believe that's what Vitaliy calls it: "Native freeze" meaning that none of the buttons on the device respond after entering video mode, including the on/off switch on the camera. i.e. you cannot even turn the device off unless you pull out the battery.

In every install, the battery had a full charge.

Any help you can lend is greatly appreciated.

Joe, please start a new thread for new topic. Obviously, you are able to apply patched firmware. Just don't check Native 24/25p to avoid "native freeze".
 
New user here, been interested the gh1 since pre hack, and Just got my first gh1 from the last batch on sale for 940 from J&R.

the serial is WEOAD0019xx . I have not gone into the service setting, but the firmware is 1.2 in the regular menu. Hope this is helpful to some.

it appears that i should be good to go, but I plan on spending a few weeks with the camera non hack, and scouring the forum before jumping into modifications, and useful posts
