GH1 and GF1 valid serial range

Just to follow up did the hack flawlessy on my we9 gh1 but couldnt get it to work on my we0fd gh1.

Did the same process on each systematic. So if you want best chance of your gh1 being hackable avoid we0fd or higher.

Haven't tried the hack, but I just received my cam from B&H.

Purchased July 2010
WE0AD00xxxx
Firmware Version: 1.22

The hack should work, I'll update it as soon as I hack it.

GF1 FV0GC102528 DOESN'T WORK
Bought on July 28th in HongKong, Traditional Chinese & English language interface.

First two letters must represent factory and production line.
As Japan bodies seems to have serials started with F and Chinese ones with W.

WE9JB00xxxx purchased Nov 2009, installed firmware v1.1
WE9LC00xxxx purchased Mar 2010, installed firmware v1.2

So nothing wrong here (if that correlation with letters and months holds). WE9JB00xxxx was probably made in October 2009 and WE9LC00 in December 2009.

and we think the number after that is the year? either 9 for 2009 or 0 for 2010. Now to figure out which one is the month possibly if there is one. my guess is the next couple letters straight after. might be easier with users who purchased in 2009 when it was hard to find because they were off the shelf as quickly as they were made and put on the shelf.

at least we now have some idea of which units to possibly look out for.

Since there are at least two other cameras which start with WE0FD and were hacked, could you, please, give us at least the following 4 numbers in order to find more precisely the limit between hackable and non-hackable?

GH1 WE0FDxxxxxx bought July 2010, Hack works, Made in China, bought in UK

JJJ, could you also give us the following 4 digits?
Namely, WE0FD0010XX works.

As said on the previous page my serial is slightly higher than this one WE0FD0010XX by just over a couple of hundred i.e just above WE0FD0012XX.

OK. Since it is produced in the same factory in China it is virtually impossible that they are mixing the firmware from one to the other camera. In fact it's more likely that they changed FW from some number on. So, to sum it up:

WE0FD0010XX works (my camera)
WE0FD0012XX does not work

JJJ, can you help us in even narrowing the gap?

FV0EC1010XX hacked on 2nd time ( 1st time battery was not full ....)
bought this gf1 today in france
made in OSAKA Japan

WE0GD0011**

Purchased from B&H on July 28th, does not hack. Needless to say I'm disappointed, though I know its my own fault for taking the risk.

No need to check yours version Rob. I have a WE0GD also and I just checked...1.34!

DAMN! Theres gotta be a way around it.

Yep its 1.34 , I actually checked the firmware version before I tried to hack it. The very first thing I did though was check the serial number and when I saw "GD", I knew it was pretty much hopeless.

Because I live in Canada, there really isn't any point in shipping it back to B&H. The way I see it, I've still upgraded from my previous dSLR (Olympus Evolt 500) for a pretty decent price. I'll just use the camera to its fullest (unhacked) potential and keep my fingers crossed for a workaround.

I have a feeling that all WE0GDs will have the 1.34 firmware, and the new 1.34 firmware started some where in between my WE0FD0012XX and crunchys slightly earlier WE0FD0010XX. This is based on the little evidence so far, so could change.
