Sneak Peak of what's coming from Cinevate

There are two very interesting announcements coming tomorrow from Cinevate. This pic is the official teaser :-) The camera is the EX1 of course and the lens out front is the amazing 17-35mm f2.8 Nikon AF-D lens. Without a question this is the sharpest wide angle glass we've ever tested here ... at f2.8 constant aperture.

2. The new rails system announcement comes later today.

3. We were approached some time ago by several vendors regarding sale/distribution of our products. Vistek in Canada, and B&H photo in the US will be carrying the new MP.1 units too.

4. We'll be at NAB as guests of B&H photo in their "Studio" section. We'll have two of the MP.1 units there as well as the new rails system.

Looks cool - I like the riser block! I guess thats one of the something news? Looking forward to seeing some work with the 17-35. Pretty sweet lens. I love wide angles...

Yeah what's up with the riser block, time for shoulder mount maybe? What about some sort of z-riser for us snorkel up guys? That's what I'm working on building.

dennis, you need to get that thing off the 503 :P

so the riser block is one thing. what's the second?
and what's on the other side of the camera?

I saw that riser in action. Its "more than meets the eye". :)
The other is not visible to the eye but is real sweet.

Looking at it again it looks like the riser can literally raise and lower with the turn of those thumb screws. If that's what you mean by transform.

That would be great, but I hope there are those gripping teeth in the joint (like on a tripod handle)...I wouldn't trust friction alone.

What is the reflection in the lens?
Can I get this in time to go to Everest next week?

There's more...but hang tight.

"The World's First". Nice.

I guess that means you expect something similar to come out as well. There's a real patent on that?

Also, if the rails are "transforming", do the screw supports last long enough for multiple changes or will they strip out similar to Cavision screws and joints?

These aren't cheap cast parts..but 100% CNC machined, heat treated aluminum. Combined with our 15mm solid carbon rails, I'd hold these up against any rails system on the planet with respect to support integrity...at any price.

Great news for customers!

I think the variable speed oscillation is neat. How does it apply to vibrating ground glass adapters? If the ground glass vibrates too slow, grain shows up. To fast, grain shows up because it's not vibrating properly?

How does it factor out when considering the MP.1?

Precise oscillation control is everything. The REV2 has always had analog adjustment, but internal, so obviously hard to do on the fly. This design allows you to do this tethered to an HD monitor and make sure it's dead accurate. Under adjustment means grain showing up, over adjustment means degraded (and very noticeably) image quality. Every adapter that uses an oscillation design needs this control to ensure maximum image quality under all mounting conditions. No exceptions. Doing it by microprocessor control is not only super-elegant but it literally runs like clock and ensures tack sharp image quality. Our R&D efforts in this area made it very obvious that controlling movement in a very precise, repeatable, fashion was critical to ensuring professional results consistently.

How long will the turnaround be on this Dennis. I've got some shoots coming up and I would love to upgrade...but I don't want to be stuck without my beloved brevis on a job.

And to think I was JUST about to send my order yesterday when I stumbled upon this thread. Guess i'll clear my cart and wait a few days.

Actually, for the last 2 weeks we've been calling folks back, or suggesting they wait....so even if you'd ordered, you'd have got the new unit :-)

Rob, turnaround once we receive your unit would be 2-5 days, adding 1 business day for return Fedex Express shipping. The update package is now up in the catalog for those wishing that option. We've added another great person to the team here to ensure that orders for new MP.1 units will go out as usual and arrive in 3-4 business days to your door.
