GF1 testing and footage goes HERE

i am thinking that we should post a list of what we would like to see the hack enable us to do with the gf1, like manual controls etc. should we start a new thread for this?

Last time I heard the GF1 was stuck in usa, and has not arrived to vitality.
He needs the camera to get it to do manual controls, we don´t know if its possible yet. Certainly hope so. The best we can do is do testing when a new ptool comes along to report back and see if everything is alright.
I don´t think we should start a knew thread just to ask for manual controls.

I did some test with a pal GF1 and the composite video out.
I hit delete for five seconds in video mode and I get a video out until I hit record and the image goes black.
The video out is NTSC whether I set it to pal or NTSC on video mode with the delete trick.
But when I hit play to see the recording the video out is what ever I have set in the menu for video out.

Hello again Adammada, I have used your 1080p settings sucessfully indoors,

but as soon as I want to shoot something outside in bright conditions I get a card write error. I am Using SanDisk Class 10 Extrem, so don't think I can get a faster card than that.

The strange thing is that as soon as it gets darker outside it records fine with around 50MBits see this video here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/508926/HD1080pStable.MOV

But in brighter conditions it crashes at 38MBits see this video
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/508926/HD1080pUnStable.MOV
this video recorded fine for 4 seconds before the error.

In really bright conditions it crashes even after 1 second.

I am using a GF1 with 20mm or 45-200mm same on both lenses.

Have you had similar issue with your 1080p settings?

I have the same problem with the EOSHD setting from here:
http://wiki.dvxuser.com/index.php/Beginners_GH1_Custom_Firmware_Guide

yes - this 1080p setting (Q: 220,200,180,160; T:123, 136, 140, 145) is not stable (properly: problem is the bright light. . . .). I use in the bright light "ND's with 4x or 8x" - the setting is 95% stable.

tries setting Qualy:180, 160, 140, 120 and the Table: original

i work "today" with 720p Color 422.
new test with 1080p and new Settings comming soon

Thanks for posting Mike. I am new to the GH1. Very nice images. Could you tell me what lens you are using?

This was shot using the GF1 - I used the pancake 20mm 1.7 lens for the first few scenes then moved onto my old £9 manual kenlock 80-200mm f4.5 pentax k mount lens for the last 2 scenes.

On the FAQ thread it says that many of the GH1 hacks can be used on the GF1 but it doesn´t say which. I was wondering if you can change NTSC to PAL, as this would at least allow NTSC (30p) users to shoot 25p (PAL).

yes - NTSC->PAL and you can AVCHD 25p

stable 1080p settings

stable 1080p settings

Thanks Adammada,

yes the lower settings seem stable 180, 160, 140, 120
it crashed on my once at the beginning but that seems to happen when you switch from higher to lower settings, maybe its a buffer thing, had that before on a different setting.

I also tried 160, 140, 120, 100 which was superstable and gave me 31-38Mbits

At the moment I am testing 200, 180, 160, 140 which gives me 40Mbits +
I had very few crashes with this setting so far, so I might test this for a while.
It might also be the light conditions today which make it more stable, but if it only crashes once in a while I might keep that setting.

However I came up with a good crash test, filming a white background on a laptop screen, kicks up the bitrate and crashed all the unstable settings instantly.

So far the 200, 180, 160, 140 have been stable towards the laptop test.

All above quality settings are with original table settings.

On another note I am using your AVCHD settings(50,60,60,70,78) and they are stable, however I only get High bitrates above 15mbits when shooting extrem stuff, is there a way to get higher bitrates on normal images?

thanks for feedback @dasmeer:Drogar-Mark-01(DBG)

You confirm my tests with these Settings

The AVCHD MBit are depending on motive -
unfortunately, one still can no lower one borders :badputer:

maybe finds tester13:happy: later still away

(sry my bad englisch)

Sorry i am a newbie - What is the GF13? Do you mean to be able to change settings within the user interface of the camera?

AVCHD improvements

AVCHD improvements

cool adammada,

will keep you posted on my experiments too,

it would be great to also get better quality in AVCHD maybe even 1080p,

fingers crossed.

Hello,

Hello,

the 1080p on GF1 is an interpolated 720p, right (so it is not like GH1) ?

Is it better to use 4:2:2 and 720p high bit rate mjpeg or 1080p with 4:2:0 ?

1080p mjpeg on both systems is interpolated (or so it would seem) 720p. 1080p AVCHD is true 1920x1080 or 1440x1080 (depending on what you set) on both systems.

4:2:2 720p MJPEG is better if you have colour critical application or plan to do more colour work in post. Obviously 4:2:0 1080p AVCHD is more desirable if you need the pixels :)

Someone please correct me but everything I've read points to this being the case. For video the GF1 is almost the same tool as the GH1 after the hack, minus a slightly less cropped FOV with the GH1 and manual shutterspeed.

Macro 720p 80 MBit color 422

i prefer the MJpeg 720p 80 MBit Color 422 look

http://www.vimeo.com/12822538

1440x810p it's also very good, but possible nobody 422 (?!)

1920x1080p is not stable - in particular with very bright light

From what I understood so far MJpeg 720p 80 MBit Color 422 is the best choice for people who want to do a intensive color correction on post, right?
