I F***ING HATE YOU -- a film by SABI -- the extended 9-minute cut

ok so I kept forgetting to come watch the extended cut - here's my take before I saw it. I honestly wasnt expecting much. I love the story so much as its little snippet I saw it as hard to improve upon. Holy crap was I wrong. The first part really gives some insight to John's character. You short went from 9/10 to 22.5/10. Hard to do. I really want a prequel that looks more into their relationship and how it ended. And then a sequel - do they get back together?
Also finally watched this with some real speakers and not on my laptop. Wow - props to Jamie and Renee on the sound. During the first moments where we are trying to figure out who's the guy with the box, I just felt so immersed in his surroundings with the sound. Seemed very natural while still coming out and bringing you into his world. Really the piece as a whole just excels at dragging the viewer right smack into the scene. Gonna go watch it again.

I loved this longer version. It made much more sense to me.

Your 6 minute cut really didn't do justice to the piece. Good work.

IFHY has been submitted to and is in consideration by over 30 int'l film festivals in new york, los angeles, and all over the world.

keeping our fingers crossed.

IFHY is also, officially, a Dogme film. #242. amazingly, we really did abide by the vow of chastity (albeit, unknowingly). the only item I violated was crediting the director and it would seem that a "scope" aspect ratio is frowned upon. but that only means i'll have to write up my "confessional". there is no mention of post treating the image so i think i'm fine there. what a riot!!

Hey Zak,

Just watched the extended cut, and I think it works much better at this length. The opening scene really sets the tone, and establishes the characters. When they get to the apartment, I enjoyed the scene much more this time. His behavior was less threatening because of the longer setup. In the shorter version, I expected him to "go postal" any second. He's more sympathetic this time around, at least to me.

Good luck with the fests!

as i'm not a superstitious fellow, don't believe in "jinxing" the potential for good fortune. So I just wanted to announce that i have garnered favor with a critic who writes for one of the biggest online movie news/review sites on the internet. and he is sending word to the site's head honcho to get permission to do a write-up on "IFHY".

send positive thoughts my way, if you please... lets f*cking do it!!!!

Thats awesome news on the review Zak - thinking good thoughts from oklahoma... I hope he titles it "I F*cking Love this Movie"

Good news Zak. Good luck with it. As for the Canne stuff, having it on the web isn't going to DQ you? Or will you just neglect to inform them?

right now, the full version is only available as an invitation-only private screening. mostly for online critics to be able to access it immediately, if they agree to review it. it's not public... know what i'm sayin'?

i've been up all f*cking night working on promoting IFHY (petitioning critics, submitting to festivals, building an online store to sell it from, etc) because most of my time goes to The Happening right now. found a cool little festival in Big Sur run by the Henry Miller library.... listen to what they say they look for...

The Big Sur Short Film Screening Series showcases the best of short films from all over the world. We are interested in films that are bold and uncensored, films that invite us into your world, that will shock us, madden us, make us cry and laugh, films with moments that are especially lovely, serendipitous, interesting, candid or moving. There is no particular theme, but we are looking for very evolved relationships with the camera, moments of dependency, love, and naturalness. We like brilliantly crafted stories. We are not interested in work that is clever at the expense of substance. (Please don’t send us your “early experimental” work – you know the films we mean).

The Big Sur Short Film Screening Series is produced by the Henry Miller Memorial Library and since both Henry Miller and Anaïs Nin worked with erotic and sexual subjects, our series welcomes the presentation of frank sexuality as long as it is intrinsic to a film/story.

i've been told they screen in an outdoor amphitheater and other filmmakers who have attended say its one of the those unknown gems... great crowds, etc.
