GF1 testing and footage goes HERE

After trying a high detail scene, and moving the camera I exceeded 17 Mbps. Thanks for the tip, abasfly!

MediaInfo:
Format: AVC
Bit rate: 23.5 Mbps
Maximum bit rate: 16.6 Mbps
Width: 1 280 pixels
Height: 720 pixels
Frame rate: 29.970 fps

Patch done with 3.36 (latest). Settings 50/52/60. Card: Transcend 16Gb/Class10. Lens: 20mm/1.7@f8

I will test some macro shots and see if that increases the bit rate.

nice,
could you post the Mjpeg quality and table settings you used for this?

And yes nice lens, even leica partner with minolta due to their good zooms and their 24mm

PTool 3.37d now allows AVC-HD settings to take affect. I ran a test with the 3.36 Ptool before I used 3.37d. With 3.36 the video never peaked much over 20 mb/sec. Now with 3.37d I am getting over 40 mb/sec with the exact same scene.

The quality and stability of the AVC-HD settings is much better than mjpeg. However, I like the fact that I can do atleast some form of 1080p with MJPEG. My ideal scenario would be to shoot 1080p @ 24 FPS AVC-HD and shoot 720p @ 29.97 FPS MJPEG with 4:2:2 color. That would make my GF1 pretty much perfect and probably prevent me from needing to buy a GH2 whenever it comes out.

I will try to upload the samples from my tests later today.

With my last test I saw that in a modified mjpeg mode (forgot setting) there was no noise reduction applied to the image and in mod avchd the image was creamy/blurry with a lot of noise reduction.
perhaps the reason why mjpeg looks sharper is because there is no noise reduction,
as of today we don't know if the 1080 mode is an upscale of a sharper image or actually more res
I'll do some testing tonight to see what I get.

Here are some clips I shot with the GF1 over the weekend. I updated both the AVC and Mjpeg settings in the firmware. However, I haven’t seen any differences in the AVC-HD footage. The bit rate always shows below 20 mb/sec no matter what I set it to.

I have settled on the following settings now

1080p 1920x1080
E1Q E2Q E3Q E4Q E1T E2T E3T E4T AVC-HD
384 330 300 276 24 24 24 24 40 50 52 60

@mpgxsvcd,
Do these settings work for you using ptool3.37d in MJPEG? I have not been able to get MJPEG videos using a class10 card....

Those settings work in a very isolated scenario. I was using a manual focus lens, indoors, with a relatively static subject, and a uniform back ground(Rock Wall).

Those settings won't work well outside at all.

With 3.37d I have now settled on the following settings.

MJPEG 1080p(1920x1080) no 4:2:2

E1Q E2Q E3Q E4Q E1T E2T E3T E4T
240 200 180 160 133 146 150 155

AVC-HD 720p settings

Bit Rate FHD-SHD Overall Limiting Height Length
50 60 80 50 50

Here is a video of the moon I shot with these settings and a 400mm Manual focus lens.

@sparedog: PTool Nr. for 1440x1080p - please!?

adammada, version 3.36 with the settings on my vimeo page. Quite a few times the class 10 card threw up the cant write error, so it's pushing the bandwidth a little too much.

Isaac, thats true, i should have made it a little clearer, its not shot 24p. But say you want to cut some footage into a montage, non sync sound, for me, it's much better than pulling it into the timeline and having a nle interpolated the frames.
