Fun...

Red Leader
I want to personally thank all of you for helping to make this project one of the most fun things I have been a part of since I can remember. The RED project was "impossible", as I remember someone saying. The community that has been developing since the announcement is amazing. I really appreciate the moral support and enthusiasm that has been shown here on DVXuser.com. It really motivates us to deliver something great.

I am currently helping design the interface to the REDCINE and it looks incredible. To work with Ted, Graeme, Stuart, Rob, James and have Jarred contribute so much on this has turned out to be an experience of a lifetime. We are keen not to disappoint anyone.

The camera design has changed tremendously since IBC. Give us a few weeks and we'll post updates on the ID and more footage.

Thanks.

Jim

I think we owe you the thanks.

But you're welcome as well.

Jim,
I'm still counting my pennies, but should make it by the end of Oct. Thanks a million for bringing real film making tools with in my grasp!

This has been an education and a wild ride, all combined into one. I really appreciate the RED teams unorthodox approach to allowing us to peak inside the tent, while the development process goes full speed ahead :)

Meanwhile, my girlfriend is urging me to found R.U.A. - RED Users Anonymous. I keep telling her - "just after this next update... just one more... I swear, baby"

Love the journey RED team. I've learned a lot just following the process ... thanks.

R.U.A # founding member - coming soon

While I still don't have a reservation for a RED camera, I can confidently say that yours will be the next digital cinema camera I purchase/rent/borrow/steal. To think I was actually considering a Sony f900 as the camera I'd rent for my next feature... Thank you for bringing us the best dang tool for the job. I look forward to lining up the financing sometime next year to get my very own RED-ONE.

Jim, the whole journey has been worth the ride for me, so far... have actually learnt a lot from you, your team and all of the contributors (the optimists and cynics alike) on the various Red fora.

Mucho gracias senor!

It's hard to find the words to express how excited/grateful/optimistic I am about this project - everyone has taken them right out of my mouth! :) Hopefully I will be able to show in the coming months my gratitude through actions; I really am looking forward to be able to do some great things with RED (the camera as well as the company!). I don't think I have been witness to an organization quite like this as long as I can remember, and I definitely don't take it for granted. Keep on doing what you're doing guys, we all appreciate it immensely! :)

Hey Jim this has been allot of fun. I couldn't think of a better group of people to have building a camera for us everday "indi" filmmakers. It is turly inspiering to see what you guys are doing and to be a part of it.

Thank YOU Jim for letting us in on the mind of a dreamer and taking us along for the journey. This is the experience of a lifetime that I am excited about...and never will forget.

Jim - you are bringing tools to many people that will make many people very very happy that would not be reached for another 20 years by another generation of filmgoers and camera makers.

My "Waves: Virtual Vacations" nature DVDs - inspire many people stuck in hospitals or can't get out, and I can't wait to bring them HD Waves for their waiting rooms or hospital CCTVs. Stanford's new cancer center runs my DVDs 24/7 shot of DV!!! I can't wait to give them 1080p Blu-ray disc downconverted from Red's 4k!!!

I really want to thank you. I'm very inspired. I've been jealous of still photographers and even my Nikon D100 at 6 megapix, now I'll be shooting 11.2 with Red's new camera, monitors, and quickly falling Hard drives prices... 1 gig under $1000 - miracles are happening this X-mas thanks to you and the RED team! You are making many people dreams happen and will inspire millions - like the internet - with your breakthroughs!

I just saw my 3 seconds of (15 minutes of fame I hope) of my DV footage from Artbeats.com used in a Nasdac commercial tonight on CNBC featuring SEARS and their plasma TVS playing my Bahamas Beaches - palm tree and sunsets - composited on 5 or more 16:9 plasma screens when it was shot on a Sony pd150 in DV... Wait till they see RED! Maybe the S&P 500 and Google are next with RED footage! Keep the dream alive - I love the rebels.

PS - Please show us as much as you can before lock down - so we can give some feedback. Im very happy to hear that 20 RED prototypes will be beat to death in hot and cold sands this December - I hope... to get the bugs out.

Good luck - cant wait to see you and Apple at NAB showing 4k editing on a 4k screen and projector - ;-) with RED footage! but that just a rumor... please send Avid and invite too - I'd like to cut on them - just cause I'm old and have not learned to run Final Cut as fast. Plus, they still edit Hollywood films, I hear! ;-)

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that its an utmost privalige interfacing with the extradorinary team behind RED. You provide us, the end user, with the ability to inform our end product which to me is the ultimate design process. For this reason, I feel that this camera is owned by the users long before they pay for it or physically embrace it.

Even though the journey is far from over I think everyone needs to put it up for the hardworking members of the rebellion.

I'll end this "backatcha" thankyou message with a quote from an article that I came across whilst researching about RED a long long time ago and stuck with me ever since:

"This company invented a product category. Perfected it. Dominated it. Defined it. Set their own standards for the industry, then went forward to exceed all their own standards leaving their so-called "competitors" in a swirling vortex of obsolescence."

There have been some very eloquent - even poetic - posts here. Lacking the coherence to articulate at this level let me just add this:

This whole thing is nuts. Crazy.

I have been playing with these images for three hours now. Compare the bubble-pop QT to the bubble-pop 4K and imagine THAT in motion. Try lifting the blacks on Jarred's shirt. Or add contrast and brightness to see how much info you can get out of the chainsaw. Try crushing Jarred's hair down to near-black. The latitude, resolution, subtly of these images are simply freaking me out. With the exception of ultra high-speed photography I can finally say that motion picture film has been surpassed. Sorry, but there it is. Jim & red team - congratulations doesn't cut it. Please don't stop.

Just want to congratulate the RED team once again. Jim, this is really interesting to follow. When the camera is released, could you write a book about the development? It would be nice to read.

Good luck!
Christian RED 440

I just want to say thanks Jim for letting me stay in your old hanger on Orcis island... wait... you don't know about that do you.. uhh errr... thanks for the camera?

*sneaks out a fire exit*

Jim J., I feel like you and your team are magically reaching into my brain, reading my deepest wishes for a camera, and then making it reality.

The -least- I can do is give you money when you're done.

Thank you.

Jim Arthurs

Love the journey RED team. I've learned a lot just following the process ... thanks.

`Me too....and still learning.

New design soon, that will be very interesting indeed.

Thank you to all the red team (including Jarrad)for an anticipated delivery of a camera that is .....very special.:)

I spend more time with you all than with my own friends. I'm not sure if that's a good thing- but I sure do appreciate it. Thanks Jim and Team
