Fuji X-T3 released

I think a lot of "down" votes can have a poster banned/unable to post. IOW, three red squares and you're out.

It doesn't do anything on the "plus" side per se but, when one sees posts from those with a lot of yellow squares like Barry Green (shouldn't Barry have green squares?), Mitch Gross, PureDrifting, et.al, it implies a very credible poster with a solid take on whatever topic is being brought up.

I know AF is not important to everyone but for me the X-T3 almost ruined a job (with a good AF lens) after its 3.00 update. Just was completely unpredictable and not sure what went wrong (I had pretty great AF results with the X-T30 the weeks before).

So it's not just me. I'm not sure, really but I think I remember better autofocus when I bought the camera
Does anyone knows it for sure?
Is there a way to downgrade? Witch version?

I concur version 3.00 on the xt3 is near unusable most of the time. I've been pretty much using the manual focus with focus peaking to ensure my shots, but this defeat the purpose of me upgrading for technological advances as there are the comparable cameras that can be used with equal if not better image quality. Very disappointed with fuji's autofocus upgrade. Hoping they will address this issue, as I love everything else about this cam.

100% shot on the X-T3.

Cool stuff Matt. Like your interview BG lighting on him with the lockers and the warm tones.

Did you shoot 120fps 1080 for your slow motion or is that 4K 60fps slowed down more?

Your piece is a good example too of creative use of stills, we are doing the same on our Docu Series, I like stills mixed in.

For your moving shots, are those gimbal or handheld?

Thanks for sharing it.

Really nice, Matt. Would love to know a bit more about how you approached this project. And sure, I'd like to know what glass etc you used. Also, why did you go X-T3 on this job?

But mostly, I just want to say great work.

Thanks Dan,

Slomo was 1080/120fps.

Moving shots were on sticks with a 50-140mm.

I directed/produced/edited this but did not shoot this time as I am about to go into surgery for a pretty serious arm injury.

DP was my good friend Peter Niccol.

Best,

Matt

Glass was Fuji 16-55mm for the interview. Same and the 50-140mm for the Broll.

I insisted on the X-t3 for this one because it was the look I wanted.

Peter had no issue with the request, because a few months prior I had become a bad influence on him and convinced him to buy it. ;)

Was so close to getting a Pocket Cinema 6K now that it is s35 and 21MP stills but I just can't get past their QC history. Going to wait for the X-H2 hoping it has internal 10 or 12 bit 4:2:2, Full size HDMI or mini SDI, waveform...and a surprise bonus of internal ND. They can do it based on their quote:

"We are always looking for the benefit for the consumer, it’s our way of thinking."

You realize that the Fuji sites are in consensus that the XH-2 won't be out until until 2021, if not later? Don't fall into the trap of waiting for the "perfect camera". The none IBIS XT-4 might be out in 2020, might not. The Fuji execs have contradicted themselves, in some interviews saying that they are keeping the two lines separate with the differentiator being IBIS, but then other execs have later hinted that if they can figure out how to shrink the IBIS, they might have it in the XT-4, so who knows?

I agree about the BMD. Their QC and initial defect record, for me relegate them to a hobbyist camera that I could never count on for professional deadlines and expectations. If your BMD camera goes down and you are a hobbyist, its a hassle. If it goes down and you are a pro, that could cost you considerable money and your professional reputation. I want to like their cameras, but some digging around shows that you have a good chance of requiring a replacement and or repair.

Didn't your Canon break, same as I had a Sony camera stop working... my XT3 has been ok so far although it does lock up occasionally

I agree, any camera can break. But if your BM camera breaks you may be in for some headaches trying to get service given their limited staff compared to the big guys. For example, my original BMCC 2.5K had to be sent back to be re-shinned and was out of commission for weeks. I also got bitten by that camera's preamp problems, which was basically my fault because I installed a supposed firmware fix before using the camera, but I should have done some extensive tests...

I give my Canon somewhat of a pass, it had some issues but I was pounding it weekly on the front of an 18' Bostom Whaler in high seas so that part was my fault, not Canons fault. Salt water spray does bad things to electronics. My C100 and C300 I owned before each ran about three years
with zero issues, even when I shot for a week in 134F temps in the Sahara. It's weird, I don't consider myself a nature or adventure DP but I keep ending up in these exrteme conditions, the jungles of Brazil, the Sahara, getting pounded into the ocean at the front of an escort
boat for a whole season. My next Docu Series is about the world of spirits and Millenial drinking habits so I don't think I'll be shooting in too many extreme conditions on that one!

My XT-3 has been flawless operationally so far. My first Fringer Pro adapter gave it fits but that was obviously a contact issue, I'm lucky it didn't fry my XT-3, just caused it to go into an endless reboot cycle over and over again. I exchanged it and the second one has been perfect.

When you come out here to the best colleges for the bar scene, or highest number of bars per town to cover that, you should let me know. I think things have tamed down a little in recent years, but not gone.

Here’s the latest X-H2 rumor. While I’m not in a rush, crossing fingers.

Interesting, FujiRumors.com and a few of the others have not had a peep about this. I'm not crazy about that LED screen on the top deck, looks like a prime candidate for
getting scratched up in camera bags and while shooting. So it sounds like this site basically says from a video standpoint, it'll be a larger XT-3 with IBIS for $400.00 more.
It'll be interesting to see if their predictions are spot on or way off. We should know by November 1st. Thanks for the link.
