Firmware update Comments

No.. this is not as good as I want it to be !!
Mainly even now, when we cange Aspect Ratio (4:3 ) camera DO NOT RECORD what is NOT in frame :

( "Exmor" Super35 CMOS Sensor / Gross pixels Approx. 3,530,000 pixels / Effective pixels of moving pictures in 16:9 Approx. 3,370,000 pixels / Effective pixels of moving pictures in 4:3 Approx. 2,530,000 pixels )

wich is much better as we do not need to COVER unnecessary parts with BLACK bands on top and bottom for 2:35, as I did in one of my music video:

This blank bands use resourses and we don't need them ..

so, better if Sony make all NEW ASPECT RATIOS ( wich Sony promice to give us in new firmware ) THE SAME WAY - When we choose it - camera will record ONLY what we want to be recorderd! This will even emprove rolling shutter issue in 2:35 aspect ratio - less way from top to buttom

Don't you think so ? :)

i don't remember seeing anything about them giving us new aspect ratio formats in the firmware update. what i read is that they were giving us guidelines. i seriously doubt they will ever put a 2.35:1 recording format into this or any other "prosumer" camera. it seems thay will only use formats which conform to TV standards. just shoot 16:9 with guidelines (or tape lines) and crop. if you're concerned about recording unneeded data, why? hard drives are dirt cheap. besides, having the extra info at the top and bottom is nice if you need to reframe or create a little tilt move from a static shot. no need to have letterbox in your output either. there are ways to avoid that....

LOL .. me - too :) .... and I was thinking about "reframe" also.. maybe it's good to have... for "safety composition" .. but, to have guidelines of 2.35:1 shooting format "always ON" still a good thing... :)

you can get really skinny tape. like pinstriping tape, but really thin, like 1mm. stick that on your lcd/monitor/whatever. will let you see framelines and the area beyond with or without the display button being active.

Firmware news?

Firmware news?

I am kicking this thread back up for a couple of reasons. First perhaps now that the FS700 cat is out of the bag, maybe some of the "Non Disclosure" group can shed some light on what might be in the FS100 firmware that we are not aware of if any.
Second to ask the question: Is the FS100 a de-tuned version of the FS700 or do you think there is a complete new board set/guts? Aside from the obvious physical differences.

I agree with the above comment. I'm pretty disappointed in Somy with the fact that the update was pushed back. I sure hope it comes out on the next scheduled date.

Sony USA on twitter just confirmed that there will be no additional features on the fs100 firmware beside those already announced.

Curious........Makes me wonder why they would delay the availability of the update then??? Surly, these minor enhancements don't overshadow the hardware improvements of the FS700?

Wow, unbelievable...when they announced it would be pushed back it sounded like that we would get something in the firmware that would carry over a feature from the FS700.

Very unfortunate. Sony dropped the ball on the update big time. I may sound like I'm whining and maybe I am. I guess they need to keep the gap between the fs100 and fs700 but to not follow through on the firmware update date, dumb. I'm interested to see what canon and Panasonic have at nab.

That's how I feel. Quite disappointed to say the least. Still shocked really.
Pushed back because who knows why. Not because of the amazing and full list
of features they are tossing our way.

Very disappointing. Still a phenomenal camera, but it would have been nice to have seen some improvements with the picture profiles.

Dear Sony, I know you have to cap the amount of FS700 goodness that you can include in the FS100 upgrade to protect your market but as an FS100 owner I would be prepared to pay good dollars for a maximum upgrade. C'mon easy money for you.

Unless they hit QA problems with the firmware, or they use the same firmware on the 700 (unlikely), it makes no sense to delay it for that date really, unless there's a reason.

I have no knowledge but would like my LA-EA2 support back when it was promised...

cheers
Paul

Didn´t expect to get 4k and super slo-mo out of the FS100 via firmware update, but the implementation of the Hypergammas would have been something I was hoping for.

I couldn't agree more. I am totally annoyed that I spent $400.00 for my LA EA2 only to have it sitting around useless. I went and bought n LA EA1 so I could use my new lenses albeit limited use. So Sony you are not impressing many of us who made the switch from Panasonic cameras.

Me too. (and thats probably one of the only fs700 features that IS firmware upgradeable.)
Although it's questionable how effective those settings would be with a different sensor.....
