Firmware update Comments

Agreed. I am going to pass this information on to Sony because, honestly, this is the ONE thing holding me back on the FS700. I still don't like the highlight handling.

If you have a way in, just get them to do an 8 bit log. 99% of issues solved with out any messing around. Mini slog in fact... It's not like they don't know how to do it :)

I sent a pretty long email to them with lots of details. I also laid out a few different ways this could be solved, and they do check on here once in awhile to see what we think. I've pointed them to our many threads.

We'll see what happens.

Maybe someone should light fire under someones ass and at least get them to acknowledge those people who have bought the camera that has opened the door for the FS700. I am very pissed off that we all have to sit and wait for our firmware update.

I wish this were the case. I do strongly believe that as a large company Sony is less
than worried about the FS100. In fact the AF100 update albeit $250 (I think?) and the
question-ability of what it adds (Didn't research much, don't own one anymore) might
be the first update I've seen for a camera that adds functionality. I suppose the
only other update would be the 5DMK2 patch a while back. I don't keep up on
it unless it pertains to me sometimes so I could be way out in left field.

I think moving forward I will see what a camera offers upfront and not fall back on
maybe the company will show it love later on. Seems like it's not a winning battle.

In the long run I believe Sony is looking to it's FS700 and others. And while it's not
a huge upgrade in some aspects, like 4K out could be. Did anyone see this article

Retina displays in 2013. Yes technology has to mature etc. etc. however 4K as a delivery
format might not be super far fetched soon and most definitely in the years to come. Inevitably
I would say, it's not 3D which requires glasses and a new TV it's just a monitor and a computer
that will support such a resolution which isn't uncommon now.

I wish the FS100 simply had 4K support and ND filters. I suppose 2013 is a bit away so it's not
like I need 4K just yet though... I assume :)

Anyway looks at these quoted specs from MacRumors:

- Phones and media players with 5 inch, 1280 x 800 pixel displays (this is already happening)
- Tablets with 10 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel displays
- Ultrabooks with 11 inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel displays
- Ultrabooks with 13 inch, 2800 x 1800 pixel displays
- Laptops with 15 inch, 3840 x 2160 pixel displays
- All-in-one desktops with 3840 x 2160 pixel displays

That's crazy...

Damn.... Thats gonna kill the resale value of my mbp :-/ but it will be nice to finallu have enough space on the screen to do some preliminary work.

Retina -Schmetina.

You guys know what "Retina Display" means?

Here is the official definition:
A retina display is one, whose resolution meets or exceeds the maximum resolution the human retina is capable of resolving, depending on the distance from your eye to the display.

So every display - no mater how crappy - becomes a retina display, if you far enough away. It´s just a marketing term with nor real tech specs regarding the panel.
It´s a combination of pixel density, screen size and viewing distance

Here is a calculator that shows you when a display becomes "retina" and how close you have to sit: http://carltonbale.com/does-4k-resolution-matter

It would be nice if there was a way to light the fire - in other words where does sony accept customer response for the FS100 cameras? Is there an email? Where's the support line for it?

If we could all direct our suggestions to one feedback place then perhaps we'd get some more feedback and response.

Not to be Mr. Negative but I don't think Sony really cares. Their response to my sensor reflection issue was along the lines of "we might take a look at it if we remember." Haven't heard anything.

It's not just Sony, though - we called RED customer support during a shoot because our camera was freaking out and the girl literally told us, "they're all getting ready for NAB right now but I'll see if I can convince one of them to call you back." That was a week ago.

Manufacturers (all of them) have a tendency to put things out there and say, "Here you go. Figure it out." That's why there's so much brand migration among consumers.
