Finally saw GH2 footage first hand.. I am not upgrading. Staying with GH1.3

By going through this thread it looks like Blackout achived some good exposure for his website, free advertisment. I even went to check his website out and laugh at some of his funny pranks, that he did accomplish for sure.

It's the miraculous ability to predict the future. Broadcast and DVD/Blu-ray encoders have virtually unlimited resources available that enable them to scan through the unencoded video stream with multiple passes. This gives them the power to precalculate bitrate allocations and track down optimal motion vectors before encoding each video frame. In contrast, the real-time video capture codec in a camcorder is constrained to using the subset of encoding tools that are guaranteed to produce valid video frames within the limited time slice budgeted for encoding each GOP. This handicap results in lower image quality and less efficient encoding than is theoretically attainable.

The difference between using a predictive on the fly encode and one where you know everything that is coming and can do multipasses, plus you can do some filtering beforehand such as NR to make the picture easier to compress

The insidious problem with using Native 24p on the GH1 is that the recorded videos may contain corrupted frames that appear to play back without error. What typically occurs is that one or more empty frames are recorded just before a key frame. When the video is examined frame-by-frame in an editor, it can be seen to pause briefly for the duration of any empty frames it contains. A detailed discussion of this malfunction can be found here:

Blackout, you can open your .ini file in notebook and cut and paste it into your browser, or you can upload the ini file as an attachment.
 
Phillip Blooms stuff looks really good. I think there will be fanboy stuff going on for a while. I reminds me of the BS that people used to say about putting a purple marker around the DVDs or whatever to get a better high quality result.

We'll get too see it all in the wash. I'm just excited to have a camera that's a bit more of a complete DSLR for video than the 7D. That camera is a PITA.

You mean I'm _not_ supposed to do the purple marker thing around the edge of the front glass of all my camera lenses? Whoops! :-)

As to the corruption problem, it has not been an issue for me so far. I'll post a copy of my hack settings soon after I take my mid night nappy nap.

I work in massive manic creative streaks for days on end sometimes and then collapse and finally sleep when there is not one ounce of energy left in me. This strange and rare event in my universe is known as nappy nap because that is what my last serious girl friend named the event.

"YOU'RE SPENDING MORE TIME WITH THOSE DAMN CAMERAS THEN YOU ARE WITH ME! I THINK YOU NEED A NAPPY NAP!" was the exact phrasing I believe.

Needless to say she is gone and the romance with the GH1.3 still continues....

Sometimes I do talk to the japanimayish looking models in the instruction manual when I start hallucinating from lack of sleep. That and.. ummm... you guys. You guys aren't as good looking though.
