FictionFEST Official Rules

For the "video from the set", can the cast introduce themselves and the character they play? Or is that considered revealing content? Thanks.

Sarah no thats OK, but keep it simple e.g. Im Joe Smith and Im playing the character of Bill Higgins for example. I wouldnt go into who the character is and what they are trying to achieve in the story.

Guys make sure you include in your film threads clearly marked: The required prop that you used.

Zak Forsman
Updated the PROP requirement. Your choice: a BOOK, a BAG, a BICYCLE, a BASEBALL BAT or BACON. Choose one and you will be asked to note which prop appears in your film and the timecode where it appears as you upload your short. The prop must be used by, or hold the attention of, one of your central characters. Use it to illustrate something about the character, or to give an actor some sort of business while delivering dialogue. The prop cannot simply sit in the background as set dressing. Have some fun with it! If you have questions or need clarification, ask a mod or post in this thread.

Hey, Zak. Will the prop be known to the viewer before watching the film? Will this be in the download section with the camera info, etc...?

Or will it private? Just so the Mods know the requirement has been met.

Just curious as the prop could hold some weight to the stories outcome and it would be a shame to have to give that information away publicly.

Thanks!

Zak Forsman
The prop must appear in the title of your film, actually.

that's a joke. It's just for the mods, to expedite the process of validating entries.

Hi Noel

This is a bit different than what Zak said earlier - do we need to specify the prop (and timecode?) in the film thread, or just during the upload? It's not a big deal for me, but it could be revealing for some.

MAH raises a good point. Might be more important than just meeting a prop requirement to some of the stories.

I'll make sure Larry knows that this information is just for the back-end, and not part of the public info of the films... just to avoid any potential with spoilers.

To clarify: You just need to specifiy the prop and its timecode location on the upload form... not publicly in your thread (but, if you want to do that, that's fine too... just not required)

I'm not seeing the size limitation in the rules, but I think someone mentioned 60MB.

Anyone have any good suggestions for exporting a 720p video small enough from FCP? I just exported my shorter of the two (Jenny), and it's 93MB. EMT will probably be about 150 or so. How do you guys get them small enough?

Check the PDF in this post. And yes, I think it's 60MB now. Used to be 50.

The link to the leaders doesnt seem to have the newest leaders in it. I personally created a new leader for the last leader fest of 2010 and i came in 3rd place. I am using my own leader for my film. Can we make sure the latest leaders are available?

Not sure what happened with those. maybe the hd versions never happened? Did any of you upload higher rez versions for archival?

They are available here for anyone who wants to see the new batch:
http://www.dvxfest.com/cgifestV/

If you have a high rez version available, perhaps you can post a link. I'll see if I can contact everyone individually, and see if we can get a upload thing setup on the quick for them.

but, in the interest of time, and if anyone wants to use any of the newer leaders, they are available there, and hopefully some of the participants can post links to their leaders... we can make a separate thread, and amend the first post here with any new leaders we receive higher rez download links to.

Later,
Jason

All good Jason, that is the correct link you just posted, thanks so much!

On a side note... My leader is called Apocalypse. I came in 3rd place (9/18/10) and I believe my $20 prize is still yet to be mailed. :)
Gord T. said you were mailing the prize cash?

Ok. Matt, you and anyone else who made leaders for the last cgifest can upload high rez versions here:
http://www.dvxfest.com/upload/cgi_entry.shtml

Larry will get them added to the leaders page. in the meantime, if you want to also post a link for folks to use here, that would be great.

I'll pass this link around to those entrants as well.

Later,
Jason
