FEATURE: Fathoms deep

As I heared the trailer...for a few things I would do some ADR. Like when dialogues sound to "roomy".

Yeah we need to adr 5 scenes of the film. The worst sound we captured was inside a moving car. Everything is muffled and sounds really poor.

A few of the interior scenes need to be done as well as they're "roomy" or "echoie"

Will be heading in to the studio to do adr on the 30th this month. Cut in all the b-roll and am having a tough time getting rid of my black-out time lapses. My producer says I can't use any of them. I think I'll keep a couple (wink) I'm also doing my first day of PADI scuba diving cert this weekend.

We did some ADR for the film today. Sooooooooooo sick of waiting for the sound designer to get off his @$$ and finish the movie. Feb 16th is his deadline. Can anyone offer some helpful advice on patients?

Bad News. After waiting since October 15th I finally got to see (or hear rather) my sound design. I was not impressed at all and ended up firing the Sound Designer. He did such an amazing job on the intro which was how he was given the job. It just seemed that after he had the job and was paid half the wages he stuck in on the back burner for 3 months. When I started applying the pressure he rushed out a sub par product and threw it in my face. This was such a letdown and I was so totally destroyed after waiting so long to hear what great work had been done on the film.

What a nightmare.

So today I sat down at my computer and began the long task of cleaning everything up. Once that is done I'll have to find another Sound Designer. This time the film is going out to Visual FX, Color Correction and Sound at the same time. Wish me luck guys. Hoping for a late spring completion.

Yeah I've already given him IMDB credit and put his name on the poster. Luckily I've only printed a handful out. If anyone needs a headsup about this guy and his company you can PM me and I'll disclose the info.

I definitely feel your pain on that. I had a composer that kind of acted like that with me. We're all busy, but if you agree to do something, then you do it and do it to the best of your ability. You stick by your word. That really sucks. I wish you could sue him, but no worries. Just get the film finished and it'll be good and he'll wish that he was a part of it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I don't want to sue and I think the best thing for me is to dive head first in again and get going on it right away. That way in a month it won't sting so bad.

Back in the Saddle. I found a really cool young lady who Manages a Post Audio house in Burbank whose begun work on the film. She found me a composer who's going to do a little work for the credit and she also hooked me up with a colorist. I brought some pizza and wine to the studio last night and we went through half the movie. Pretty cool experience to sit in one of those rooms. I was a little un-nerved at how many imperfections I could hear on the big speakers but she assures me she can work wonders with the audio.

I finished cutting together a 55 minute "Making Of" Featurette and I'll post a link to the first few minutes after I upload it somewhere.

My brother (who designed the poster) just finished the dvd case and I'm completely blown away at how cool it looks. Gonna keep it under wraps until I get a review or a festival laurel to slap on it though.

Many filmmakers are surprised when they hear there film out of "real speakers" instead of pc-speakers or other "cheap" speakers

Yes absolutely. Although how are you to know until you sit in that seat surrounded by thousands of dollars of Sound Gear. I'm just glad I had the experience in front of crew instead of an audience.

Got a few score tracks from the composer and am really pleased. It's crazy how much it changes the scene.

Sound Design is Complete thanks to KT Kent at Argyle Studios and the score will be finished May 15th. The issue of Screen Magazine just went to Press.
