The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

We could but this could be the only deal breaker on this camera.
No one is really concerned about the 12.3MP. No doubt it's going
to be an awesome still camera.

This could be the answer to all of us here in this forum and the
still camera feature is one Giant bonus that comes with the camera.
But I am getting way ahead of myself. This is still a baby.

Somebody, Drag a Nikon Tech Rep that has full
knowlege of this camera and squeeze it out of him.

Maybe from Japan.

he went to japan, talked to the rep, that's how we got the info that the 5min clip isnt due to heat issues, just how the programmed it. he also took the camera pressed the little AE-L, thus giving the knowledge it can be locked

sorry: lived in japan

This thread is about the end of 35mm adapters and hv20's - teh idea of assembling a 'ghetto rig' that gets you close in quality to a more expensive set-up. We are enthusiasts so we geek out on new ways to improve our images. So this thread is great - anyone calling for the thread to be closed should give back their geek card.
With that said I think the D90 is absolutely wonderful BUT obviously this is just the start. ALL digital SLR's will offer video so the GAME has changed and if I was a manufacturer of 35mm adaptors I'm not sure I would be too thrilled at the moment.
Predictions from me are that cameras that are purely photographic tools will come onto the market with 50MP+ sensors and slow frame rates and will basically be used for portraits and landscapes - they'll be medium format with no video. All other cameras from say 21MP down will have a video function and eventually there will be a 1080P 4:4:4 camera that matches the quality of footage taken by a RED One. We are looking at a 4K ca,era with still picture quality at 21MP and very high dynamic range.
Why? Well not really for amateur film makers but more for photo journalists and news houses and of course cheaper models aimed at the home user.
So yes the game has changed - we'll have everything we need and whilst the D90 might be lacking in some ways it is definitely a sign of things to come.
A lot of industry insiders are sure that hybrid photo and video cameras will dominate all sections of the market.

This has the potential to be the ultimate middle man killer and all the
pain that goes with it.

Imagine:

No more bulky flippin 35mm adpater
No more bulky backbreaking rigs.
No more heavy duty baseplates and rods
No more more heavy pelican cases to lug around (espeically on airplanes)
No more expensive tripods the weigh a ton.

Just show up on set almost naked and with your 2 in 1 camera, a laptop and start
kicking but. Also, it doesn't hurt to rig it on a matte box, follow focus and stabilizer
to sweeten the kill.

i just dropped my D40 onto an old Spiderbrace I had and, well, i think i found a new use for it when the D90 come out.

For what it's worth I emailed Nikon USA tech support and alerted them to this forum debate going on and all the excitement their new camera has created over here at DVXuser. I included a link to this forum thread along with an invitation to chime in on the technical specs of their new product. I have a feeling they are probably waaay too busy with other things but at least this will give them a heads up that WE have taken a huge interest. Cross your fingers (but don't hold your breath).

Just found a video that shows the Aperture and shutter in P mode changing. However the ISO at 800 ASA is locked. So camera gain stays where you want it. ( P ) mode works as it should, adjusting the A/S. In manual mode that wouldn't do that. You would have control.

Take a look : http://75.126.132.154/PRODS/D90/D90focus.mp4

BTW a friend told me that the VR on the lenses are causing some of the issues we are seeing. Like with the train scene in Japan. It's just not intended for video ( the VR )....

Im always jealous of those damn photographers when they show up on site with their little camera bag, complaining about how heavy it is. Here we are with everything bar the kitchen sink having payed a fortune in excess baggage fees.

Y'know? The fact that he's able to select the speed of what he's shooting with a known compromise to image quality (noise/grain) is just nice.

And, I hope the VR function is causing the incredible skew.

I was thinking the same thing... Jeez, I can't wait for someone capable to get their hands on a D90 and shoot something nice. We need solid answers. :D
