I recently aquired a Panasonic GH2 that I will be taking overseas with me for several months. I haven't made a short in a very long time, but after helping two people shoot (and act) for entries to this contest, I got a wild hair and decided to whip something up. I far as I'm concerned this is mostly a test of my new GH2, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did making it with my friends. :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Panasonic GH2
14-44 kit lens, f4-f11
Canon FD 50mm f1.4-f8
Canon FD 28mm f2.8-f8​

Additional Info:
I JUST got this camera and filming this movie was my first time out with it. That said... I screwed up the time-base. Haha. I accidentally shot the whole thing in 29.97fps. (oh well) BUT! oddly enough, I also flubbed the shutter speed. I thought I was recording 24fps, so 1/50th would be about right... I was shooting in 1/60th. Still wouldn't have been horrible, but interesting to find that I shot it all properly even if "incorrectly" by accident.

Also, in the third act, the VO audio frequency closely matches the score intentionally, if it's distorting in your speakers... maybe try some nicer speakers. It sounds like crap on my tv speakers, but in the actual stereo, it's quite pretty.

Production Schedule:

3/6/11:
-4pm, Brainstorm ideas.
-5pm, begin shooting - 10pm, Wrap shoot.
-10pm-11pm, rough edit.​
3/7/11:
-1pm-2pm, tighten up edit.
-2-5pm be interrupted constantly.
-5:30pm-6:30pm Heavy handed graded (no holds barred, this GH2 footage is quite flexible)
-7:30pm finish preliminary Color Grade (then render all night)​
3/8/11:
9:30am, Versions sent off to Voice Over artist, and Composer.
1-1:30pm tighten up edit and regrade necessary shots. Picture Lock.
5pm-6:30pm- begin SFX and Foley
9-11pm - More Foley (hmm... what sounds like sticky bacon?)​
3/9/11:
1-1:30 - Recorded last of SFX with Actors. SFX is done! We have a new VO artist lined up as well.
3:30-5pm - Record Score. HOLY... Wow! Thank you @TommyLeinonen
8:30pm-12AM - Apply and clean up VO; final audio balance.
12 AM - Render Final​
3/10/11:
9:00am - Fix audio flub and re-render.
11:30am - Uploaded submission!
1:20pm - Film has been approved for submission!​

Heavy handed graded is a rare/fun luxury. I'm not worried with going crazy on this one.

The kit lens is certainly nice, it even has decent DOF. But it's SOOOOooooo sharp that it looks... video-ey. I only used it for the FOV. And yes, the Canon FD's have a great old lens feel. I not at all smitten with the contrast, but they're good enough for government work.

My M42 adapter is still in the mail (Shipping from Korea) so I haven't had a chance to mount up my 135mm. But I'm really excited to. I'm not sure I'll be able to attend the launch party as my weekend is already SUPER packed from friday on. We shall see.
 
Awesome! I love one day shoots. Almost everything I've ever shot has been done that way. It really helps because you don't have to remember how things were last time you shot!

OH, does the GH2 have more than double crop factor? Using a 14mm lens gives you 35mm?!
 
Fun bts. It all looks very "run and gun". I've done a few timed contests in the past and it's amazing what you can accomplish in a short time. Good luck.

The crop on the GH2 is almost exactly 200% so 14mm is 28mm.

Thanks Chris. Most of my own stuff has been that way as well. I'll be transitioning out of that shortly as I go back to school (for film), but I still really enjoy the excitement of figure it out as you go. Then SOYP (tm) it. (Seat Of Your Pants)

But only if your frame of reference is FF35. I've been using Canon DSLRS and Red so my mental frame of reference is the APS-C. Thus GH2 is only a 1.3x crop from that. So a 14mm on GH2 looks like the 18mm on a Red or Canon APS-C DSLR.

Correct. ( Why 35mm is the standard is another discussion. :p )
