Driftwood 'Sedna' A, B or C With edited Orion Settings' for ptools 3.64d Released 16th March 2012 1:30am
(Panasonic firmware v1.11 & ptools 3.64d '200212' required). Settings for GH2 & GF2 Lumix cameras.

Sedna Settings Link: 78a2170329f703a1863d5690d5eb30.zip *Log in to www.personal-view first.
Info: http://www.personal-view.com/talks/...od-quantum-x-settings-series-2-sedna-a-b-c/p1

Stats: 24p Intra, 1080i/HBR Intra, 720 GOP3/GOP6 all INTRA settings as Orion but with Sedna Matrices:-
A = High Detail matrix Good for Wide full detail shots.
B = Good allround detail matrix Great all round wide / mid shots.
C = Softer detail matrix Softer skin tonal detail.
*You can rename the set.ini files to suit your A to J button placements - just change the letter using right-click rename in Windows/Mac PC)
There's not too massive a difference between them - just fine adjustments. Look great on STD Picture Profile.
Two packs;- one pack set on AQ1, the other Q20.
NOTE: These are balanced high Quantised matrix settings disabling the need for pushing AQ to 2, 3 or 4 or lower manual Q
TECH INFO: Who needs 150M to pull off good looking pictures? You don't. Good to Hi quality Type 10 sdcards only.
NOTES: It seems a lifetime in a week trying to achieve the best possible bitrate, Q, matrix etc... settings to date. Sedna is the work of around 50+ odd hours of continuous testing with 4 GH2s working around the clock with different lenses, ISO's, shutter speeds and stopping up and down... but even that's not enough testing.

Driftwood 'Cluster' v1
With Orion (AVC Intra adapted) Matrix VBR 'Settings' for ptools 3.64d Released 9th March 2012 1am
(Panasonic firmware v1.11 & ptools 3.64d '200212' required). Settings for GH2 & GF2 Lumix cameras.

Stats: Upto 72M 24p, Upto 36M HBR, Upto 36M 720p modes. (*All REC MODES include B frames)

INFO: Very simple Long GOP cluster of i/p/b frames principle, Low Bitrate, conservative settings for all round use with a nice matrix for Type 6 card users.
After so many requests from non GOP1'ers to provide the Orion Matrix in a Long GOP configuration I settled on this one to hopefully satisfy the need. I like 12 GOP / 15 GOP for Long GOP - as far as editing goes and converters out there, the Ibbpbbpbbpbb (12 GOP PAL) and ibbpbbpbbpbbpbb (15 GOP NTSC) is the most universally supported GOP structure outside of Intra. A nice cluster of i/p and b frames and appropriately titled methinks. Hopefully, this will keep long duration seekers, type 6 card users, and HBR peeps happy (though I doubt I can please all of 'em). * Orion v5c with Dark Matter matrices - Three differing settings (v1 to v3) offering progressively sharper looking matrices for attacking the lo and hi frequencies from v1 to v3 (sharpest).

* Also try out the flatter looking AVC Intra inspired matrixes on Quantum series settings below;-

Thanks for the link, Driftwood, and for all your hard work on this. We all truly appreciate your efforts in turning our little camera into a major imaging device.

One thing... It's hard for me as a non-techie to read all the jargon in the other site you linked to. To my untrained eyes, ALL the patches sound amazing. Would it be possible for you (or someone else) to post a list of the names of the different patches with a very short summary of their main strengths? Something along these lines:

PATCH A - Highest quality image, files take up the most space, needs super-fast SD card.
PATCH B - Great quality, smaller files sizes, needs super-fast SD card.
PATCH C - Best all-around patch, files are not too huge, any class 6 SD card will do.

You know, something basic like that so my eyes don't glaze over as they currently do trying to figure out which patch does what. Anyway, thanks again!

I can't seem to download the file. It only gives me the option to save a the file picture. Is it because I'm on a mac? I've done it before on a pc. I'm looking forward to trying the new patches.

Whoever does this gets inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!

Also descriptions like: "for MJPEG" or "For 720P" etc...
That would be reeeeally helpful.

The files look like "blank white page" images. If you hover over it, you'll see a description pop up.

I'm on Orion V4( but need to update to b):

Kills. Got some more stuff to do but I'm probably switching film modes to Cinema for day/well lit/controlled, smooth/standard for night or low lit.

Thanks again Driftwood for all of your work on the patches, which I consider to be the "reference standard". I've been using your AQuamotion v2 patch (on the original firmware) for awhile on my work and getting great results. How do these Quantum Series patches compare with previous patches? I loaded your β Pictoris patch last night and noticed bitrates are lower than what I was getting with your AQuamotion v2 patch.

I appreciate the work on the hack I really do but I think there is a massive disconnect between the techie guys on this and the filmmakers. DVX is usually good at helping complex things simple but I feel its failed so far. Thats why the guys who actually work on cameras are not the guys who communicate what a camera does. Canon, NIkon, even RED have their guys who go around communicating in laymans terms what their cameras do. People need to know simply what hacks produce the most film like look, or sharp picture of high file sizes etc. Tons of hacks with bizzare names with 10 versions of each mbps, GOP, intra, cbr, whatever....I admit I'm tech wise as dumb as a brush and I know filmakers need to know their tools BUT, someone needs to demistify and communicate the hacks seperate to what inner crowd involved in the hacks who are mainly pixel peepers (no offense intended). What I recommend is a few threads or even stickys that have the current top hacks and an example clip to illustrate the hacks picture, the odd poll of best hacks could even be helpful.

I know that if I'm confused but the whole hack thing I'm sure tons of other people are too. Filmaking is mainly for creative people who tend not to be that great with technology but learn what they need to tell a story. So I appeal to those who are gifted in the tech side and the creative to try to communicate simply the hacks in creative terms and not technical ones. And DVX/Users need to distill that knowledge into a neat way in this forum.

Or you could study up and put 1/2 the effort into understanding this stuff as Nick puts in to creating these amazing patches... everyone is working hard to make this a good thing.

Your right if people are working hard to make a good thing then you want as much people to understand and use it, Amirite? After spending two weeks looking for hours through threads to understand the hacks and being non the wiser I think I've put some effort into understanding them. I also have donated some money to the work (I hope you have too). I've already admitted I'm not technologicaly minded and don't understand the terms and what the different terms and jargon mean to the look of the footage. Is there some kind of honour and pride in the techie world at being incomprehensible? Clear communication costs nothing.
