DRI - a film by Michael Anthony Horrigan

Thanks guys and girl. :)

The edit is not done yet, just the rough template. Although the first half is pretty solid.
I was too bust today cleaning up the house I'm about to move into this week. Tomorrow I'll be patching and painting.

I hope to get back to the edit Sunday night.

Cheers,

MAH

Man, you gotta' wait until Sunday? Will you even have enough energy to edit then? It's amazing that all of us are even getting films done this time around. It seems everybody has alot goin' on these past couple of months. We should all get a prize for just finishing - and to think me and Rodney were talking about trying to do 2. Yeah, right!

All moved in.
Just a bit more unpacking and tidying up left to do.
I should have my Mac up and running tomorrow night. Then I'm off to finish the edit and work on the sound design a little more.

welcome back Mike. Don;t you know you;re supposed to set your computer up the very FIRST thing? Even before you set up a desk...

Anthony,

Looking forward to this one. I've been enjoying the films you've made here. What genre would you say this project would fall into?

Picture lock!

Busted my ass on it the last few hours after my daughter went to bed. Rendering now and then it's off to Herman for his magic touch.
I can't wait to hear what he comes up with for this one.

Now, if I can get the someone to do the 3 SFX shots needed, I'm in.

MAH

I'm just finally making my rounds to see all the threads and I must say, you have some interesting grabs! I can't wait to see it.

Thanks! Good luck in the fest. I've commented in most of the threads but may have missed yours. I remember something about a RED not RED camera. :)

I'll pop by later and see what you're up to.

What SFX shots are you looking to do?

Thanks, Tom. Sent you a PM.

I've been getting some help with the VFX and I couldn't be happier. It's really starting to take shape. :)

Doing some more sound design to go along with it.

During the last Fest that I entered (TwilightFest) I did a bit of a breakdown as to how I made the short from beginning to end.
For those that might be interested I'm going to do a bit of the same for this one.

I'll start with the gear. Nothing fancy...

Shot the entire thing with the little Canon HV20. No adapters, stock.
Homemade dolly got a real workout this Fest.
Rented a sennheiser boom mic.
No lights for this one, just used practicals sitting around the house.
Pissy broken tri-pod. I should really get a new one. :)

As most shorts start mine blossomed with a simple idea. Since I was running into problems with my original concept I decided to run with this new one.
I really just wanted to get another short under my belt so I made some changes in order to make it happen.

So I got down to putting my ideas on paper and rounded up a small cast. I also found a great child actress that was really good to work with.
She was a real trooper and listened quite well. Ian was also quick to jump in which I really appreciated.

Now here's a brief breakdown for each of the grabs that I posted.

The first was a dolly shot. The room was lit with nothing but what you see. Just the light of the fish tank and the small lamp on the bookshelf.
There is also very little light coming in from the hallway in this shot. If memory serves I was locked at around 1/48 F2.6 in cinemode.

Staged the room exactly as I needed which took some time. Slow dolly in.

This shot was lit as it was in the opening shot. Nothing more than the lamp above it.
Repositioned the dolly, adjusted the exposure a bit and took the shot.

Moved in closer. I wanted close to the same angle as the shot before it, just a bit of the ballerina in the reflection.
As you can deduce from the two shots, she's turning.

This shot was lit by a tall standing 60w lamp in the room, some noise pattern light from a flat screen LCD and possibly some scattered light from the adjacent kitchen.
We may have moved the lamp closer for this shot, I can't recall. Hand-held and zoomed in quite a bit for some DOF.
The hand and glass is fairly sharp while he remains quite out of focus for this shot, as does the table.

This was a tripod shot with the identical lighting conditions as the previous shot above.
Save that his positioning was closer to the the light being cast from the kitchen. I may have added a small table lamp.
I'll have to ask Denis, he was a big help and might remember. Locked down the shot and grabbed focus.

More to come later.

A DVXFest wouldn't be the same for me if there wasn't some last minute madness.

The last VFX shot needs to be done and I need help as Justin is swamped with his own problems. Looking for help and sending out a few PM's.

I have a backup plan but that requires a different shot entirely. I'll shoot that today.

Not to worry Herman, the new shot (if needed) would just replace the final shot in the film that you have. :)

Breathe... Breathe...
