D90 feature "work in progress" screening

i want to *add* them, not remove them. the rolling shutter only shows them as horizontal lines of different width across the image. hardly nighclubish. removing those lines and adding real strobe flashes in their place is the plan.

yeah what about the grading?

ahh ok. be interested to see how that works cause I'll have the same problem

well I'm just trying to figure out why you made it so orange.

i haven't really made anything orange, certainly not in the grading. it's just that sunsets, desert sand and soduim vapor lights tend to be that color, especially the latter which is everywhere. hence i picked that as my main color and did the costume design (well, shopping), location scouting and makeup scheme accordingly.

panning works pretty much like a real steadicam, you simply hold the ball joint with two fingers and pan. you can's tilt interactively but you can balance the camera in a tilted position for high and low angle shots. i won't post any general production information right now but i will answer specific questions.

Thanks Matt. I can't wait until this thing arrives. It looks so fun.

thanks guys. this is the digital master used for the transfer (converted to h.264 then vimeo). i wanted to scan the print back to video to check the difference, but it got too expensive. i will make my video masters from the film print for the finished film though, it picks up another slight level of depth, and the grain is beautiful.

Seconded. I'm thinking of getting the mini-hague too.
Just one question I have for Mattias - Elsewhere you mentioned you need more weights than it comes with? Are there any specific weights you got that work with the unit? Do hague sell add ons?
Would like to get everything at the same time and was just curious if you had anywhere you ordered the additional weights from and the specs etc.

Thanks in advance. That trailer of yours looks fantastic!

Just use whateter that's round and got a hole in it. I used a mount washer from an ikea desk. Go to your hardware store and browse.

That makes sense. DIY it...great! So it's not really far off in terms of the weight then? Just needs a tweak/nudge in the right direction...

it's not about far off or not, you just put whatever's needed on there and use the supplied washers for tweaking. the washer i'm using weighs as much as all the supplied washers together.

Wow! Fantastic work, Matt! Love love love the look of this. I just wish I could see the 35mm blowup!

Any chance we might see little demo of the hague in action? Before/after type of thing? You should contact Hague and get commission ;0

first this is truly amazing.

second, what did you use for lighting during hte indoor shots? We tried a photo lighting setup, but it had flicker issues and sort of rolling up horizontal lines. Ended up using house tungsten lights and one ikea lamp that we could angle at the actor for a key light. Looked ok but not nearly as good as your stuff.

What lenses were you using inside?

I have access to a 50mm 1.4, tamron 17-50mm 2.8, sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6 and some others.

jon!

what did you use for lighting during hte indoor shots?
all available, opening and closing curtains, flicking switches, unscrewing fluorescents, sometimes bouncing a bit of eyelight with a small bouncer, which was the only piece of lighting equipment we had. search the board for the rolling lines and how to get rid of them.
