Cine style zooms for AF100

they're still a darn sight better than a stills lens.

Hey Barry...also I've read various comments that these lenses might be rehoused Sigma's. Heard anything like this before?...if this were true, would the optics still be better than any of the other still lenses?

The optics aren't necessarily better than stills lenses. Some stills lens optics are very good. Inexpensive cinema lenses aren't about vastly superior optics, they're about vastly superior housings, mechanicals, and operations (witness the Compact Primes).

Problem with the DigiOptics and Red 18-50 were that the housings weren't that vastly superior. Better than stills lenses, but not as good as genuine cine lenses. But then again, they aren't priced like cine lenses either.

The early Red lenses were rumored to be rehoused Sigmas. The specs did match exactly.

Good stills lenses are designed for higher resolution than video lenses, not less. Stills lenses tend to breath and have degree of rotation issues, etc when used for moving pictures. When used right they look just as good as Cine lenses (sacrilege, I know).

I gather that the RED 50-150mm T3 ZOOM did not have these problems? i still see that they sell them and the only lens they replaced was the 18-50 with a 17-50.

By the way...how awesome that you are in Japan...I can't wait to hear your review of the new AF-100 near completion....

If panasonic sels a ton of AF 100's - some one might make a decent zoom for the camera considering the potential market for it.

Learned a couple of new things. Stock up on Class 6 cards instead of Class 4. :)
Ummm... I'm not gonna make any assumptions on what this means, but it seems to me to mean something super significant. Class of card defines speed of throughput or write speed. Class 6 is 6MB/s performance which equates to 48mbps!!!!

I don't wanna start rumors but I'm thinking and hoping that this is the ace that Panny is waiting to drop...

Barry????? Your comment on this?

My head is spinning in speculation territory. And holding back the speculation is becoming harder every minute. SMPTE meeting on Nov 17th with JAN a month before the AF100's release, this statement for Class 6 SD at 48mbps by Barry, 1080/60p overcrank in camera means the sensor and processor can handle 1080/60p, a big "to do" meeting in Japan with top name guys for the introduction of a single camera... Maybe I'm a theorist but this could easily add up to something.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying...

Hey Barry could you check if the lens mount looks solid? Was wondering if when connecting heavy lenses (2 to 6 pounds) do we need to reinforce the lens with a support as to not put stress to the mount?...or iis it built like a tank?

Barry could you please elaborate (names) on the still lenses, whose optics can be comparaed to the cine lenses. What would be a good set of primes for AF100.
I guess if one is not gonna do a zoom shot digioptics zoom would serve a good purpose of variable primes.

Considering Barry's comment, either class 6 is better for quality standards (something we all knew), or they bring more features. My guess is towards the latter.

Total speculation: We'll need Class 6 cards for the 1080/60p slo-mo. I doubt they'll increase the bitrate, but I sure would love it if they did!

maybe its something else. since 60p is wrapped on 24p, bitrate could stay the same.

however they could have higher bitrates up their sleeves. or avcpro hahaha yeah not realistic

What other explanation could there be for the statement below?

Learned a couple of new things. Stock up on Class 6 cards instead of Class 4. :)

Observations
1) It's says there is something NEW. So either with the existing features we know about there is reason for class 6, OR there is a new feature to the cam which requires class 6.
2) Class 6 compared to Class 4 is 48mbps compared to 32mbps.
3) THERE IS A SMILEY!!!! If there was no smiley, it would just mean that it's better to use Class 6 cards. But with the smiley there, there is more to his statement than the face value of it.
