C300: Canon C300 Mark II Announced & Pre-Order List at Texas Media Systems

... My point was to agree that at some point in the near future the price gap between the Arri's, Canons, Blackmagics and A7/GH's will have to narrow dramatically. How Canon's stills line will fit into this will be interesting to see.
It isn't that the price gap will close - ARRI's Alexa 65mm will stay up in the stratosphere for a while - but that one would be able to shoot anything but the major features with a $5,000 camera. Hypothetically speaking, as I mentioned before, A7RII would be enough too without its overheating issues. It may not be Alexa 65 but, a home viewing on a "small" 65" screen won't make much of a difference.

FWIW, my opinion is that, given the falling prices of cameras - and everything related to image acquisition - top pro shoots will go to a simultaneous multi-cam production that will allow a virtually live/real time shooting, sort of like the US daytime soaps are done but with the filmic shot framing, lighting, etc.

PS. I obviously meant "falling price-to-performance" ratio or alternately "rising performance-to-price" ratio.

I guess it depends what kind of films we're talking about. I mean you can quite easily argue that we reached that point a few years ago. E.g. Blue is the Warmest Colour (C300) and Upstream Colour (GH2) - Cannes-conquering features both shot on 8-bit 1080p cameras that can't even do FHD slow-mo. Blackmagic have been offering ridiculously cheap cameras perfectly capable of feature filmmaking for several years now. The GH4 can do 10bit 4K. The list goes on. I don't think there's anything special about the A7RII that marks some sort of change in that regard.

True, if one is talking 2K movie theater projection, which is the currently dominant resolution in that arena.

Generically speaking, however, the high end cameras have had a higher dynamic range, resolution and a "professional" codec, to say nothing of the work flow advantages. That gap is disappearing too, especially if one uses an external recorder.

PS. On the one hand, A7RII is merely the latest camera. On the other, it's a fairly substantial leap forward in terms of specs, even beating C300 MKII in terms of resolution. And, lo and behold, the heat issue seems to be manageable with an external recorder, as per today's post on the related thread.

People are forgetting one of the most important differences, the camera(body) itself. Hell, I LOVE the image from my C300, I just hate shooting with the damn thing.

Can you do triple slot recording (SD card and two CFast Cards)? Can the dual CFast cards do two different types of recording at the same time (such as 50 mbps 1080p and 4k)?

I really wish you could record 50 mbps 4:2:2 to the SD cards; a lot of producers will buy or already own SD cards or Compact Flash cards since they are cheap so then you can use theirs on a shoot, but CFast is going to be too expensive for most producers to own, which means taking extra time to transfer data at the end of each shoot would be necessary for anything more than 24 mbps 4:2:0 recording.

I'd heard about a list of compatible CFast Cards. Does anyone have a link to such a list?

The Sony might have better "performance," but it has a dramatically worse looking image.

That said, since the GH4/C100/5D Mark III raw and even sort of the A7S... we've been at "good enough" for a long time.

This is very pretty (even if at a ridiculously wide aspect ratio).

PS. The other reply was in jest, as I had found an 8K time lapse on YouTube, made on A7RII

fwiw, the new batteries are 14.4 volt compared to 7.2 volt for the old BP-955 & BP-975.

i've been told that the C300 Mark II & C300 run times would be similar despite the changes in voltage and mAh rating.

BP-A30 3100mAh
BP-955 5200mAh

BP-A60 6400mAh
BP-975 7350mAh

Canon is really milking it on the accessories front, $500 for a BP-A60! Really?

Very soon.

Canon announced at NAB that C300 Mark II cameras are expected to start shipping this month.

Canon is usually very honest about meeting targeted delivery dates.

Awesome! How much of a backlog should we expect? I've pre-ordered with you and a couple other distributors so just waiting to see who ships first.

Back orders situation on the C300 Mark II is going to be tight for awhile.

I believe that at least one C300 Mark II will eventually be sold for every C300 that has been ever sold.

FWIW, at least 50% of all unpaid pre-orders that get placed on newly released cameras never get invoiced. The pre-order list is never as long as it appears.

Awesome if it sells that well, it's a great camera.

Hate to say though, I'm a bit sceptical because there's some awesome cameras from other manufacturers available now (or very shortly).

I think I'm just sad because they are RRP AU$24,500 in Australia. *sigh*

If you can answer this (and this is coming from someone who was in the electronic retail business a long time), how big are the corporate channel orders on this? How many a network/studio/major streamer call the Panasonic North America HQ and ask for 30-50 of these units ASAP?
