Canon 70d Has Aliasing Moire

You can't judge aliasing from the small LCD screen on the back of the camera. It is too low res, so you get aliasing from downscaling the image to fit it on the display.

Come on...! Be a little patient...as cpc said...you can NOT judge from that video...

1. The video is a 720p video being done of the tiny screen of a camera shooting 1080P video. No way to judge quality.
2. The sensor is brand new, let's wait and see...but of course you may be right.

Canon's LCD Shows where Moire is, which is good, However Nasty Moire, This is pure Mathematics :

6D $ 2100 = Moire , 70D $ 1200 = No Moire = $ 900 Refund, Canon doesn't refund as far as I know

You're right, only make assumptions based on Canons track record, which probably means Moire.
I think the moire was being caused by the camera RECORDING the image, not the 70D. I say this because the moire on the LCD is there regardless of what's being displayed on the screen. This means the moire isn't related to what the 70D was recording. What we are seeing is more like rainbow reflection off the LCD screen that either the RECORDING camera or subsequent compression &/or down sampling couldn't handle.

Just an FYI...there's a still-shot featured on Canon's website of a green parrot. It has moire. Download the full image and see for yourself. Here's the link to download the image:http://canon-premium.webcdn.stream.ne.jp/www09/canon-premium/eosd/samples/eos70d/downloads/09.jpg

(Look at the area above and to the right of the yellow feathers.)

There is truth in advertising after all.

The real truth is I've been shooting with a 5Dmk2, 550D, 7D, 60D, 600D for every day 4 years and I've seen moire on occaision, but never a problem I couldn't easily avoid.

I'm still unconvinced, but it won't be long before customers are playing with the cameras, so, as usual: wait and see...

Silly video of an LCD taking video aside, I'm pretty sure the 70D will have moire for one reason: nothing in the press release saying it doesn't.

Huh? Just because they didn't say it doesn't, doesn't mean it does, you say? The press release for 5Dmk3 specifically addresses moire and states that it has "significantly reduced" amounts. Feel free to google it.

Canon knows it's a problem. They're just billing the solution as a "feature".

Canon is in the business of making money first and selling products is the way they do it. Of course they know there is a problem and of course they can fix it, but if they sold you the perfect camera, you would never need to buy another.
I'm selling my 60D but keeping my back up 600D and start hacking it. The most interesting and advanced improvements aren't from any of the camera manufacturers, they come from Magic Lantern. You'll grow a long white beird before canon comes close to what Magic lantern is releasing. HDR that produces 2 sets of frames at different IOS settings.
Imagine what canon would charge for a 600D that could shoot raw? I just installed it in my 600D for free. The 70D is just like the 5Dmk3. I waited for ever for it and in the end either came up short or became over priced. My biggest investment now is to see how much better I can make the tools work I already have.
