Camera rumors for 2016?

I think Sony calculated that there's more money to be made in the sub 10K market, than selling a limited number of units in the higher end. I doubt we'll see an F5 replacement at IBC. I wonder why Sony, with its sensor making prowess, doesn't just clobber RED or ARRI. I believe (just hearsay) that the same sensor company makes the chips in both RED and ARRI cameras - just to different specs.

43/Mirrorless Rumors says that there'll be a four month delay in several new cameras due to the Kumamoto quake. Fuji got lucky with XT2 in that their run was done before the quake (mostly) and thus they can begin shipping in August.

There was also a photo of a store shelf in Croydon (Greater London area) that has GH4 as a clearance item.

It's been noted in many a place that 5D MKIV was registered (as a WiFi enabled device) in Indonesia.

Presumably, the full announcement is imminent.

What do you guys expect to see at IBC?
Lots of folks mulling around, smoking ciggies and eating doner-kebab's.

Oh, in terms of gear? Maybe that long awaited A99 followup. Maybe a 4K A7III. Maybe a GH5 (a pre-announcement announcement). C500 MKII. Maybe some 1" ENG 4K camcorders.

Sony Alta Cine line update and ARRI Alexa4K will probably come out later but may be teased in September.

But doner-kebabs are a virtual guarantee.

Can't remember the kebab from last year else I would be on it.
I hope sony is ready for the A99 follow-up, can't wait for that one.
Like a7sII performance with 4k 50p and 422 for 4000-5000eu.
Can't get better than that.

It looks like the Sony sensor fab is running about four months behind schedule. If so, a lot of the consumer/enthusiast type models slated for a pre-Christmas release may not be available. In that case, the manufacturer will stick with what they have. There's no reason to subvert own sales by announcing a camera that won't be available anyway.

The exception to the above can be the shortage of sensor for both current and future models. In that case, both the manufacturers and the retailers are outright SOL. The most likely scenario there is to make a small introduction batch of cameras, just enough to have a demo for a sales counter, and then take a pre-order for whenever these units do arrive. The retail management can deal with this but, for a salesperson, it can be a nightmare.

High end pro units generally don't have that problem, especially now with so many "feature worthy" products around.

As of today, things are on track for Convergent Design to have a big announcement for IBC. Fingers crossed that the timing works out. Something totally unexpected and pretty cool.
