Camera rumors for 2016?

Maybe Canon will just skip all this bull* and go straight to a 16K IMAX sized, raw shooting, single lens 3D, hair blow drying, super DSLR with ND filters.

Maybe not.

Canon's current lineup isn't so horrible. Would have been nice for them to do 4K on the C100mkII being a $5500 camera, or at the very least 2K being that it is designated as a Cinema series camera. That one baffles the mind.
I'm still convinced their DSLRs only move as fast as Nikon moves or where they feel threatened(or know) Nikon may move.

Pentax's upcoming full frame camera specs have been leaked. Sony 36 MPX sensor, 5-Axis image stabilization, and Super Resolution for stills by pixel shifting. 1080p only. No price yet.

I think Blackmagic have made a mistake. URSA Mini 4.6K is probably not going to arrive before February. Who buys a new camera in February? NAB is in April and because of URSA Mini, somebody will announce a camera that will challenge it. And the chances are, that company will deliver the camera on time.

So they should have announced it first at NAB 2016, then started shipping the next day. But they would have lost a large swath of customers who all died of a heart attack.

I checked with one genetic scientist who has very recently done the Blackmagic genome sequencing and decoding. I was told that one gene in Blackmagic specifically announces cameras one year in advance. And there is another f*_H*Air gene which masks the real shipping date and announces an erroneous date. This f*_H*Air is also likely to be present in atleast one other camera manufacturer. Can't reveal more at this point of time without taking written permissions. :D

As a (still) happy owner of the GH3, and have skipped the GH4, I am really curious about what the GH5 will bring. If they get it right I will instantly upgrade. I'm looking for 4k 60fps. If it adds 1 more stop DR in the mix, I'm game.

I'm in the same boat. I'm OK with the GH3 for now, though if I were to upgrade, I wouldn't do so unless the GH5 was significantly better in low light - my understanding is that the GH4 is barely so. I am trying to switch exclusively to working with battery powered LED lights, and one of the drawbacks of such lights is the generally paltry brightness and throw. As a result, I find the low light performance in a camera quite important, especially when you are dealing with slower lenses - even the constant 2.8 in the 12-35 panasonic is frequently just too slow in low light. I must admit, the Sony A7SII sounds very intriguing, though that's too much money for me, plus I have a lot of m4/3 lenses and various adapters. The one weakness I find with Panasonic cameras, including the GH line, is generally mediocre/poor low light performance... very unfortunate from my point of view.

True. I am only using f1.8 lenses with a Speed Booster so I almost never have to go higher than ISO 1600 which is still pretty decent. Also, it is as high as I take this camera. It would indeed be good if I could go to 6400 and it was clean, but that's not my biggest complaint. The A7S is nice but has a very high native ISO which can also be a disadvantage in daylight. Furthermore I love the battery life of the GH3 because I shoot weddings and changing batteries is not something I want to do more than twice a day as I do now. The GH3 line has showed to me to be reliable, fast, and delivering pretty darn good images.

The only thing I personally miss is DR and color science. I just drool when I see BlackMagic images. It's just a whole lot more filmic. Also, the market is pushing for 4K and I kind of feel like I need it also because I want to give my clients the best of the best. At least, they should think that :)

So, if Panasonic gives me 60fps in 4K I'm already happy but if they could extract 1-2 stops more DR out of the new sensor, I wouldn't think twice.

Sony Alpha Rumors is "reporting" that there will be a new A-mount camera announced in a few weeks' time. No specs are given but I would assume it to be a higher end camera. Maybe they'll just repackage the latest in the A7 series into a larger A-99 size body, plus a tweak or two.

Well.... for those keeping score, it looks like I whiffed on that one. Sony Alpha Rumors says it's A68, APS-C and priced at $600 body only.

DLD, what is your hunch: will there be a "better" camera than FS5 at NAB 2016, in the 7k all-in price range? I'm not completely sold (no 2K ProRes, form factor is bit iffy for me, the "feel" of the image is a question mark), but it seems like the best option by a mile right now.

On specs, URSA Mini is superior to FS5 (it weighs a little more, as I am reminded) but there seems to be a slew of teething problems with many BMD models and the 4.6K Mini is several months late in arrival. Other potential competitors are Nikon D5 and Canon 1D X MKII, both of which have been bandied about for a while now. Those two are high probability/near certainty. Other rumors will trickle out in time.

BTW, the new Pentax full frame looks ... eh, fearsome.

URSA Mini is superior to FS5, but it's more like 10k all-in if we are talking about the 4.6K version.

Rumors have Fuji announcing a full frame 4K T2 at the CES'16, with shipment dates soon thereafter.

Currently, T1 is retailing at ~ $1,300 (APS-C, 1080p at 60 fps), with the various outlets throwing in some additional goodies to sweeten the pot.

Ursa Mini 4K footage. It was supposed to be a 2015 camera ... but better late than never.
