Break-in...

To Jim I say. Make another billion or two and **** 'em all. They say good living is the best revenge and in this case good living is the camera that has been kicking around your mind for years (my assumption). Bring it on.
Or he could spend the bulk of his wealth in an effort to help mankind.

Have you seen some of the people on the other forums who are vehemently against RED and Jim Jannard? Some of them seem to make it their personal crusade to hound him and the company. I've never seen people so angry over a camera.
Why is it so?

Is it necessary to answer?

EDIT -- Sorry, you already answered and said all:

Actually, I think it's all about the camera. The camera's capabilities and price point will cause changes in the industry and these changes won't be good for everyone. There are any numbers of people other than the camera manufacturers who would want to maintain the status quo. In my opinion it is these individuals, not the corporations, that are more likely to do something as rash as a brazen burglary.

its on engadget.com now :)
Interesting... I tipped them off when the 4K grab was put up... no dice. The company makes big public progress? Not newsworthy. Somebody steals something from the company? That is.

Mr. Jannard, Perhaps you should direct your anger and frustration at yourself for not protecting your assets better. In the future, I recommend that you sit beside your valuables while you're reading and contributing to these forums. That should keep them within sight 24 hours a day. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

omfg.. .dude. Whats he supposed to do, pack up everything every night and check it into a bank vault? Maybe he should have several armed guards?

Well, Im sorry if you guys wouldnt even consider an inside You can call me whatever you want, but me and some buddies at Cinematography.com do indeed feel that there is something fishy going on with this.

Who are you, and who are your buddies?

Hey Vegansoy, it's a good thing they don't require IQ tests on this board before posting, or you'ed never get to say anything...

Really sorry to hear about the break in but I'm especially sorry to hear there are people out there doubting your story. It's a shame that one of the larger online communities dedicated to cinematography would have such animosity that it would actually lead to making fun of the situation or accusing the project of a hoax.

I don't know what will feel better... the pat on the back Red team inevitably give themselves when the finish the race or the moment when you can all look at the rest of the world and tell them I told you so.

Seriously, what did they really hope to achieve by doing this??

Find out who actually makes the casing, the sensor, circuits......
Put pressure on them to "have difficulties".

Just like that 4K projector **** Sony pulled at ibc.

PS: But maybe I´m too paranoid because I was watching Oliver Stone´s "Nixon" last night. You know, Watergate, etc..

lol insanity... betcha anything that John F Kennedy is kicking back on a beach somewhere shooting the waves at 4K.

Why are we all arguing and fighting in this thread? It's getting us nowhere and it's pissing people off.

The facts:

RED was broken into.
It is not a publicity stunt.
Stuff was stolen.
We don't know who stole it.
We don't know what was stolen.
RED ONE will not be delayed as a result.

Maybe security could've been tighter, maybe it was stolen by some competing company with malicious intent, who knows?

Lets just do everything we can to help out. If anybody reading has any information that can lead to an arrest, contact Jim. Stop arguing, stop accusing and start doing something that can make a difference.

The key asset is the sensor. [I think that´s what spy went after] You can design casing in your garage but you need a über expensive plant to build sensors. No sensor - no camera. [look what happened to kinetta..]

Good point Brook. Good night.

blame the victim eh? so supportive you are.

your post also takes aim at Jim's participationi in these forums which I think is so great about Jim.

Jim thanks for sharing so much. like everyone else said..this unfortunate incident will only make RED stronger.

Dude, are you a complete idiot. First you accuse him of a hoax (which makes no sense at all because the police are involved and it would be a crime to file a false police report) and then you say he should be angry at himself instead of you for making such an obviously stupid and idiot suggestion? And now you say it's his fault for not protecting his assets better? Freakin unbelievable.
I don't think he's an idiot...

Firstly, hoaxes happen and there is no reason that police wouldn't be dragged into one (false police reports are a crime, but there's no punishment unless caught). And although it's unlikely the hoax would come from Red, you can't deny that Red will be getting an exorbitant amount of spotlight from this situation. Without any details, speculation and conspiracy theories are bound to show up. VeganSoy just proposed a typical conspiracy theory and Jim's response to him was pretty harsh... I let it slide since I expect Jim is going to be angry and on edge for a day or two after being robbed.

Secondly, the responsibility of theft prevention ultimately rests on the person who doesn't want their assets stolen. So even though Jim's not at fault for the theft being carried out, it is Jim's fault that the theft was completed successfully. Was the equipment locked down in a safe each night, or just left out on a desk? Was the office situated high in the sky or on the ground floor? Was there no guard on duty? There are a lot of anti-theft measures that could have been done that appear to have not been done. Course, that's me speculating, since I don't have any of that info... maybe the thief/thieves broke a window after scaling several stories, clubbed a guard, cracked a safe and then got away in a storm of bullets.

I'm very curious as to what kind of information could have been stolen. No doubt the majority of their research and technical data resides on a computer and it would be hard to believe that the machines holding this data aren't encrypted. Surely if the information was stolen there would be some record of who was the last to log into the system and access those files at the time of the break-in. Maybe they stole the drives out of the computers? Also, wouldn't the information on RED specs be ridiculously vast? If somone were to steal something crucial they would need to know exactly what to look for and, to make things faster, where to look for it. I'm very sorry to Jim and the RED team for this set back. Thankfully you guys are too progressive a team to let this get you down. Do us all a favor and find the bastard(s)...

That some would think this a stunt is kind of predictable.
Perhaps that was the intent of the break in.
The reaction to those who've said so is also kind of predictable.
Both sides of the argument could well be doing exactly what the perpetrators wanted.
