Normally, I can't understand half of what you say, but this time you came through, loud and clear...

I know it sucks to have something stolen from you (as I flash back to my car radio ripped out, cut wires hanging loose all over the place). But you shouldn't let it get you down or make you angry, because that's just going to get your blood pressure in a knot. Instead, look at what you've gained from this experience... "biographical content".

I've always felt that the Red One development project should be turned into a movie or book, that it would be a sort of documentary about the overthrowing of the cinema gear status-quo. Well, the plot has always been a little bit sterile, but now you've got this whole "industrial espionage" thing to work into your story. It could fill almost a quarter of the content in your story if it's played up right, and it'll turn your documentary from a tech-spec story into a really good action thriller. And you've gotten all of this at the paltry cost of only a few days development setback and some lost equipment.

This is terrible news. I can't imagine how pissed you guys must be. I'm angry myself.

Good luck catching those f*ckers.

WHOOT!!! Finally that dudes... gone....

Anyway, that totally sucks about the break-in... I'll of course keep my eyes and ears open... I hope you catch the suckers who did this!:kali:

I can't believe people would steal something like this. Jim has been extremely generous in these forums by sharing information and up to date developments about RED. It is extremely rare that the owner of a large corporation would come to these forums and support his product. I mean, you can log on, and actually talk to the founder of a company whose products are globally recognized. I thank Jim and the RED team for their support of this community and their willingness to actually listen to customers and build their products from customer input. I am appalled and furious that someone would take advantage of this generosity and steal something of this nature.

I also think that it is disgraceful for people to think that this is a hoax or some kind of inside job. The RED team has given the people here on these forums a unique and rare insight into the development of a product that will revolutionize the industry that most of us build our lives around.

I support RED, from the start to the finish.

Great news to wake up to.....not!

And if the actual break in wasn't disturbing enough, those reactions are plain crazy. Whoa, talk about being ignorant, rude, and close minded.

Sorry this has got me all worked up and ready to kick some ass

Some people just don’t seem very bright.

It isn’t a cover up to hide something from investors. There are no “investors” since Jim is paying for it all himself- and even if Red doesn’t make a penny it won’t be a hardship for the man. It isn’t chump change but for him it probably isn’t much more than two or three percent of his personal worth.

If Red manages to get Red One to market with the capabilities and pricing that they are targeting then there is no need for theatrics and if they don’t hit their targets... well then no amount of theatrics will sell the product. While you might not be smart enough to figure that out I’m pretty sure that he is. That’s almost as idiotic as thinking that Jim Jannard has set this up to scam a few million dollars out of people.

As for thinking that it was to cover up problems they’ve had in development? He’s said that it won’t delay them more than a day or two, and since he has stated previously that they were weeks ahead of schedule it doesn’t really make sense as a delaying tactic now does it? I suppose you imagined him scheming away in his lair trying to find some way to hide the fact that he is only twelve days ahead of schedule rather than fifteen?

I can’t understand the hate on some people have for this endeavor and Jim personally? You act as if he just told you that your baby is really, really ugly and that his kids are way cuter. Jim, through Red, is simply trying to engineer a really good camera at a great price. He has taken the unprecedented step of opening up the design and engineering process with the expressed intent to gather constructive feedback from the community he is targeting. And some of you just can’t help but peeing in the pool and congratulate yourself on how cool you are.

I have put my deposit on a Red Camera but I certainly haven’t drank the kool-aid. If he succeeds I’ll happily pay the remainder but if for some reason he can’t pull off the engineering required and falls short of the target... then I will simply thank him for the effort and get my money back. And I’m not worried about getting my money back. Maybe you would jeopardize a multi-billion dollar personal fortune for a couple million dollars- but that is probably one of the reasons he has that kind of money and you don’t? Just because lies, deceit and fraud is the first place that your mind goes doesn’t mean that is how others operate.

Faking a robbery would have no upside for Jim or Red and would have several real drawbacks. Jumping to that conclusion shows a mean, petty spirit and an intellect in dire need of remedial courses in logic and reasoning.

Have you seen some of the people on the other forums who are vehemently against RED and Jim Jannard? Some of them seem to make it their personal crusade to hound him and the company. I've never seen people so angry over a camera.

That's why all it takes is one nut job or a nut job and his buddies to break some glass, go in there and steal computer and hardware in less time than it takes for the cops to respond to the alarm.

It doesn't take an insider to do this job. Some people seem to think RED is some huge industrial complex with secret labs protected by keycode locks so only an insider must have done it. What if RED is just a non-descript industrial building with just some offices? From Jarred's description and the google map of the facility that's what I thought it was.

I know industrial espionage makes for a better "story" for some people here to believe but honestly I bet it was just some idiot who did this for a reason only they know.

And then again it might not even be about the camera. Some people are just born to hate. Look at Jim...successful business guy, cool dude and has hundreds of millions of dollars. Sometimes that's the real focus of hatred.

To Jim I say. Make another billion or two and **** 'em all. They say good living is the best revenge and in this case good living is the camera that has been kicking around your mind for years (my assumption). Bring it on.

Disruptive technologies such as RED are those that come out of the blue and throw our basic assumptions out the window. The light bulb and the motor car were disruptive technologies that turned the world on end. They came out of nowhere and there was fierce resistance because it was so different than the norm. Gas companies were in an uproar, horse carriage companies were going crazy and the people on the downside of the new technology were less than happy with the innovation. ( picture all the guys on stilts that used to light the gas lamps )

Established businesses work very hard to avoid disruptions - they like to do in the future what has worked in the past. If there is any innovating to be done then they want to do it at their own pace. When people like Jim come along and start rattling their cages there is little recourse but to try and downplay the significance of the technology or resort to attacking the integrity of the inventor. Look how long its taken to get a friggin 24P camera thats affordable.

This type of behavior has occured repeatedly through history, in the end its the consumers that determine what happens, not the antiquated company or industry that is being displaced. My advice to all of the people that are in denial is that you'd better start taking night classes at your community college and diversifing your skillset rather than following a dated technology into oblivion.
