Avengers

As someone with no expectations at all, I thought it was fantastic. I had never watched a trailer for it

Damn it! 2 awesome trailers, 70 TV spots and a SuperBowl ad and we somehow still didn't get you!

Tell me your habits, good Sir. We need to study your movements so that we can reach you in the future :P

But yes, I do admit that though my day job is movie trailers, I stay the hell away from watching them myself. If I've decided I want to see a movie I then avoid all marketing for it like the plague!

From a technical standpoint, I was really surprised to find out it wasn't 4K (from what I'm reading here). The screen I saw it on was pretty huge, and there seemed to be all kinds of resolution. Even the 3D effect wasn't the complete trainwreck I was expecting. Fast motion looked pretty choppy and disorienting (basically all the scenes with Iron Man flying around), but at least they didn't exaggerate the depth effect too much.

Yes, good old brilliantly-executed non-4K can be quite compelling :)

The movie is great ...the acting is well is enough :) ...Mark Ruffalo was the best then RD jr....slowly but surely getting tired of Samuel. Sorry to say he acts only a certain way..like a one trick pony.

MY expectations were low btw ...but I was pleased because I brought my nieces and nephews to watch the movie with me and my wife....now I cant wait for Thanos !

Also, did anyone but me notice the rolling shutter on that kind of slow-mo tracking shot of Cap 'Merika running on top of a car or something? It was a total Transformers shot, but the instant I saw it, I noticed something funny and it took a second to click, but I realized this was one of the 5DmkII shots and the rolling shutter was pretty obvious, at least to me.

I'm going to go again sometime over the next week or so, and I'll be looking for that shot again, haha.

The best possible scenario is that they hand The Avengers Franchise over to Michael Bay. Bring it on.

Ha, sometimes I have to actively avoid trailers, because too many of them give too much away (Prometheus is killing me in this regard).

More importantly though, trailers seem to be cut in a way that I find distracting these days (I don't blame you personally :p). You know, the fast cuts with lots of blackouts... then throw in that soundtrack; a few years back it was a rising chorus of "aaaahhhhhhs," then more recently it became a series of hard synth hits (the ones that sound like the aliens from War of the Worlds) and some digital noise between the two dozen rapid scene transitions. Now, I swear to god they're throwing in elephant trumpeting to mark the climax of the trailer. It's just strange.

I know this wish will probably never come true, but oh I wish, I wish they would not make a sequel. How do you top something like this? You can't. But I know my words are to death ears because the studios only see money. I'm one of those people, though the original movie itself will never technically change, if a sequel sucks it kind of takes something away from the original. But I guess I can always not see it when it comes out, that is another option, no one is forcing me to see it.

Rant over.

If Whedon is doing it. I have no fear...none. He's a true story teller and one of the most amazingly gifted writers/creators I've ever seen. I've been saying since 2000 or 2001 that he's my writing/filmmaking idol and if he was ever given a huge budget he'd blow people away....well, the masses I mean. He's been often referred to as a writing/filmmaking "God" on the internet for many years before The Avengers. He only surprised those who did not know him or really viewed much of his previous work. He's been blowing people's minds since the late 90's, so for us fans of his we already knew and he had a very loyal following for great reason. He lives for telling stories....small or big. As amazing as The Avengers was I don't think it's his greatest work as a story teller or writer, but still a great one; Definitely most impressive as far as how mind blowing and stunning it was to watch take place, but he's done some amazing work as a writer and filmmaker on his series way before The Avengers. He has already sad when asked how he'd top this with a sequel by basically saying he wouldn't try to top it (as Michael Bay would) and outdo it, but instead tell a story, take the characters and story somewhere organically.

I really enjoyed this one. Thank goodness I saw it in 2d. I"ve seen the last 3 movies in 3d and every time I said, I wish I'd just seen it in 2d.

I'm not going to any more 3d movies until directors start throwing stuff in my face instead of throwing it behind the screen. That's what 3d is for, to throw stuff out of the screen into my face. If you're not going to do that, why bother?

Captain America's shield? PERFECT opportunity to throw something out of the screen into my face. I didn't see the 3d version, but I'm willing to bet they didn't do it even once.

What?! That old-fashioned, amusement-park-style, flying-out-of-the-screen 3D is the worst kind of 3D. Everybody I know hates that effect.
