Avengers

Downey is Stark, and that is Thor right out of the comics, amazing casting on both parts.

Downey as Stark is spot on but I would have preferred Triple H from WWE as Thor.

Helmsworth just doesn't look like he could go toe to toe w/the Hulk. Don't get me wrong, he captured the essence of the character & did a great job but he just doesn't "look" the part to me.

Then again, I suppose the trade off would be someone who "looks" the part but can't act worth a darn.

I'm just mad that Edward Norton got replaced. I really really hate recasts! Let's hope I can go passed that when the movie comes out!

Recently re-watched Thor - quite enjoyed it for what it was - and not being a big comic book fan, I really struggle to see how they'll pull this off in one movie... still, I can't deny the trailer looked pretty damn fun ;)

!!! SPOILERS !!!!

Not bad, don't think the script was up to par but still thought it wasn't bad, didn't love it. Giving this half a star extra because it really got better toward the end (and a couple great gags, Hulk is the man!).

3.5/5

I saw it yesterday. Loved it. If I had to rank the Marvel films I'd say Avengers>Iron Man>Captain America>Thor>Incredible Hulk>Hulk>Punisher(1989)>Iron Man 2.
I just pretended that a different actor played Bruce Banner because he had surgery to hide from the government.

I saw it twice this weekend (apparently we get to see it first, down here?!). I enjoyed it, but I far prefer Iron Man. Maybe I was expecting more from Whedon. I imagine it's no easy task to put so many super-heros in a movie, however. The result is competent and fun, at the very least.

Like the major geek that I am, I saw this last night at midnight. My review is based on the fact I'm not a comic book fan, meaning I don't know anything about the comic books.

But, this was the most fun I had in a movie theater ever!!! I was never around for the original Star Wars in theaters, but this is the closest I imagine that audience must of felt like. WOW this was fun and entertaining. TWO HUGE THUMBS UP!!!

I cannot say enough good things about this movie... The action was the best I have ever seen. The script was funny as hell. All the actors were extremely entertaining when they were just standing around talking. I could see someone having an issue with the thin plot, but only if you don't consider what this was. This was not a sequel or even a standalone movie. It's a crossover done in the same way comics have done it for years. That means the setup is extremely simple and used more as a pure plot device than anything else. If you're not familiar with that or, even worse, not familiar with all of the other movies that lead up to this, I'm not sure that you can understand how brilliantly done this was. Having said that I think everyone can appreciate the pure spectacle. In case I'm being too subtle, what I'm trying to say is that I'm usually a cynical son-of-a-***** and this was the best, most exciting movie experience I've had in an extremely long time.

This movie was a ton of fun. Easily the best Marvel Superhero film for me. I'd place Iron Man as a close second but it had a stale third act. This one was solid across the board. Sharp, witty dialogue. Great action sequences. Engaging character dynamics. Joss handled the ensemble effortlessly. Even seemingly useless characters like Black Widow were well handled, although I should've suspected the Buffy maestro would make her character work. And while I don't think Mark Ruffalo was a dramatically better Bruce Banner than Ed Norton, I prefer Mark just as a general presence. He's more fun to watch. I expect this film to make BOATLOADS of money. I'm not even the target demographic for this and I want to see it again. I imagine the kids will go bonkers for it. It's easy to argue with people who call this the best Superhero move ever, as that's probably too much hyperbole...but they don't come much more entertaining. If I had to level a criticism, it's that the particulars of the finale remind me a bit too much of Transformers 3, although that die was probably cast before TF3 came out and it was too late to change it. Plus, Transformers 3 is a piece of sh*t. It was nice to see an action blockbuster helmed by a director with a real feel for action, but who doesn't come out of the Bay-ified school of music video nonsense. Everything was coherent and staged with real suspense. Yep, I really dug this film. So many nice little moments, like the "Hulk smash" line, or the flying monkeys reference, that gave it just the right sense of fun. It entertains without making you feel like an idiot, even while you're watching grown men in tights beat the crap out of each other.

Maybe I gotta watch this again, I didn't have the fun that you guys did.

I'm curious why you didn't think the script was up to par. I thought it was a very solidly constructed script, with great dialogue. Not a complicated script but I find modern action blockbusters try to put too much junk into their stories and they end up having too many contrivances. Kurtzman & Orci (Star Trek, Transformers) and Terry Rossio & Ted Elliot (The Pirates films) often succumb to that kind of bloat. I thought Whedon was smart to dwell on fewer locations and incidents as it left more room for character interaction. And it was a pleasure to watch one of these movies when you can tell the director had as much fun filming scenes of characters interacting as he did blowing stuff up. When people say it reminds them of the best blockbuster films of the 80's I think they mean in this way, simple, direct movies told with a a lot of wit, style and energy.
