Avatar - James Cameron Returns! (Spoilers in thread, obviously!)

There's a couple guys in dark suits at the door. Be right back after I find out what they want.

If they look like Arnold, Robert Patrick, or someone you know, then run out the back door because it might be a couple of T-800's or T-1000's in disguise.

Oh yeah!

Tomorrow is a special day. It is my birthday. I will turn 25. Ok, probably not the most exciting thing ever.

But the fact that I will be exclusively watching 15 minutes of Avatar in an IMAX theatre definitely is! Now that's a birthday present!

Special showing in 2 Theaters here in Hong Kong! 600 cards total, selling today. AMC Pacific Place and UA Megabox - BEA IMAX.

Please let us know how it looks! And happy B Day

Happy birthday!!

TRAILER here. I'm not really digging it.

Thanks alot guys!

Now I'm worried :D I am not going to watch the trailer. I will wait for the IMAX showing tomorrow. I'll report afterwards.

I'm not digging it either. Cameron oversold it as being photo realistic CGI. Just looks like another Star Wars cartoon to me. District 9 looked more real on a 30 million dollar budget.
I agree. Photo realistic? No way.

I need to see more though. Don't get me wrong, visually it looks great! Still, there's something off about it.

Simon, good luck with the IMAX viewing. Let us know what you think.

Hopefully the story's so good it doesn't matter...but yeah...I bet JC wishes he could take those words back. I think he's made the mistake of rendering things too beautifully. Blokamp made his images dirty and grimy enough that the CGI elements blended in. Although Blokamp used real environments which he insterted his creatures into. Avatar is full of shots that are 100 percent rendered, CGI environments and characters. Still, if he dirtied up the cinematography I'm sure things wouldn't look so fake.

I was reading an article where JC stated that the CGI is breaking any new ground but the way they filmed it is gonna change it all. So which is it James? It seemed like he switched up when it got closer to showtime. Either way I'm checking it.

Man, District 9 had some of the most seamless work I have ever seen.

SPOILERS

Also, you can't tell me with all the advancements they obviously have in medicine, bio-mechanics, engineering, etc... that there would still be people in wheelchairs? Hard to swallow. A good exoskeleton suit would do him just fine. Even an anti-grav sled.

Yet this seems to be the choice to get him walking??
Hopefully I'm missing a big piece of the puzzle, which is quite possible.

What you see in the trailer is representative of content in the film.

As far as the need for a wheelchair - it's covered in the story. At least, in the last draft I read.

I thought it looked better than Star Wars. CGI still looks like CGI. But I love what I see so far. I think many of us had such high expectations because of the hype on this film. Once we are in a theater and have the glasses on everything could change.

And Jar Jar Binks x2 already made a cameo this summer in Transformers 2.
