Atomos Ninja Update

They know what they are doing...let's all let them work and give us the best product right off the bat. Let us relax...

We waited for the AG-AF a bit longer than expected. So what? And I do not like it, when a company throws a product at me which may not really be finished. If I shoot I need to know the thing works. To have it earlier and get shots ruined because I work as beta-tester is much more painful (and expensive) in the end.

Actually the ones to lose most in such a phase usually are the companies in question. So I will not doubt their decisions... only throw the product at them when It does not perform as promised.

Let's consider toning down the rhetoric in this thread.

If you wish to discuss the update, then do it in civil, respectful tones.

That's the rule here.

thanks

He was probably referring to me. I was a little more abrasive than you. Sometimes I tend to say things in a "Charley Sheen" kinda way, especially early in the morning :)

I would take some time to think about whether or not you should actually be doing that. Abrasiveness is unwelcome here.

Okay, guys, seriously -- what the hell?!?!?

Back off.

Here's the deal in case someone isn't understanding it -- Atomos has no control over what their resellers do. In fact, as Dave is saying, Atomos isn't even dealing with the resellers! They're selling to DISTRIBUTORS. The distributors are selling to the resellers. If some reseller decides to take a deposit on a non-shipping product, then that's a stupid business decision on the part of the reseller. But you can't blame the manufacturer for that.

As for delays -- boo frickin' hoo. It takes time to put out a product. I've been one of the Ninja Skeptics because it sounds too good to be true, but jeez, the way that Dave has been greeted here is EMBARRASSING.

So maybe I'm a little Charlie Sheen-y today, but here's the thing -- take responsibility for your OWN actions. Don't go giving a reseller money on a product that hasn't shipped yet -- that's just goofy. Who knows when it will ship? Clearly the manufacturer doesn't know the exact date yet -- because stuff takes time to get it right. Will it be this week? Maybe. Next week? Maybe. Who knows? Just take a break and quit worrying about it. It'll come out when it comes out. It's like the frickin' Scarlet -- call me when it's in www.red.com/store. Until then, it's wasted breath. And do you want to be the earliest adopter anyway? Guess what -- it's gonna have issues, it's gonna have bugs, I predict that thoroughly. It will take a few revisions before it's flawless. To Atomos' credit, they're trying to do as much of that process now, while none of YOUR footage is at risk! Do you really want to be beta-testing an unproven RECORDER? I sure don't. It took me a couple of years to finally sign on to the Nano, fer cryin' out loud... give 'em time to get it right, willya?

Okay, back to how we treat manufacturers who come on DVXUser -- we do not call them "liars". We do not accuse them of shady business practices when they have done nothing wrong. Back off. Chill out. Knock it off. They have done absolutely nothing to harm you. They haven't taken a penny of your money*, all they've done (the ONLY thing they've done) is announce that they're going to be introducing a product soon. That action alone does not qualify them for the treatment they've gotten here.

Let the manufacturer ship his product. If it's good, buy it and it will be a success. If it isn't good, it will flop -- and you won't have bought it, and there's no harm and no foul.

Embarrassing, guys. This was embarrassing.

*if you've given money to anyone, you've given it to a reseller, not to Atomos. So your problem is with the reseller. Don't prepay a deposit on a brand-new product that has never shipped before from a company that is brand new, that's just silly. And resellers, don't you dare go taking deposits from your customers on a brand-new product from a brand-new company, that's just poor business. And if the customer throws money at you and demands that you take it so that the customer gets "on the list", then you be sure to tell them that you have NO IDEA when the product will come out, or IF it will ever come out. We expect it to, but it's a funny world and sometimes things happen that are out of anyone's control, like FoxConn arbitrarily shutting down all its factories in China. So don't give anyone a deposit on a non-shipping product, and resellers, don't take any deposits on non-shipping products.
