at the park - a BROTHERS TUTTLE film

Thanks Tommy, it's funny people have said the exact opposite about the acting. They thought the Bum was okay and loved the woman's. It's interesting to hear everyone's opinions. Thanks for the comments, though. I liked your performance in TTN by the way hopefully we'll get a chance to work together some day.

TTN was a lot of fun to do, but I didn't really get a chance to develop the character...

Yeah, I'd love to work with you some day. Let me know if you have anything you plan to work on.

Anything in the works for Spyfest?

Better believe it.

Thanks again for the comments everyone.

Preston: Loved your flick man maybe you could PM me your comments on the audio, I wouldn't mind a specific report, maybe even the exact seconds that bugged you so we can take another look... er listen.

Just watched and this was well done ..Congrats on an excellant short .

Ian

Thanks a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed it, it was a blast to make and we can't wait to stress ourselves out, bleed our bank accounts dry, and almost kill ourselves to make another, hopefully for SpyFest. We have an idea all ready but we still have another short (that we put on the back burner because of this Fest) we need to work on and finish. So if that happens quickly expect something from us... it maybe a last minute project thrown together with paper clips and Elmers glue or we might just help crew someones just so we can be apart of it. We loved the experience and it has been great hearing what people have to say so we can improve and make better movies.

ANother that coincidentally went the full gauntlet, the whole shabang of 6 minutes. Alot of filler in between and felt more like a PSA that i knew was coming at 2:45. But it just went on too long, i feel like a broken record, but i just have to keep stating it where i feel it is neccessary. IT felt like it was trying to reach the 6 minute mark.

The search seemed WAY too long and we went to places that were farther from where they were first sitting first instead of just checking the local area. the shot at 4:28 looked decent which adds legitimacy to the short.

acting wasnt so hot for me, but the girl stood out better than all the adults, the worst being the homeless man. the 'flame' felt a little cheesy, and made me feel sorry for mom, as if shes getting played by this guy.

was he dead? i wouldnt think so , the hit didnt seem convincing. i just hant help but not take this seriously though for some reason.

thats it.

maybe i should give a disclaimer before i get warned? ( i had to stop reviewing horrorfest because i wasnt being that positive, this is how i feel and i guess ill just post until im stopped again)

Jeremy - I was just referring to this nightmare you described, and I say congrats for making it work:

We wish we didn't have to do ADR but the traffic noise was just horrible in some of the shots. Most of the other shots the traffic just sounds like a hum. I even wonder if maybe we ADRed the whole movie and took all the traffic sounds out then maybe having a similar sound through out the movie would help.... not sure. If you thought the whole movie was ADRed I wonder if it was the hum that threw you. Maybe if we even just left the traffic sound in all it's glory (we actually tried to take it out by EQing it to hell and back) then maybe it would at least sound more like outdoors, but outdoors in between two freeways. Not sure, any one with sound design back ground maybe they could throw us their two cents.
me, being less experienced and resourseful, would have been tempted to give up!

Hi Jeremy,

I liked the build up in this short. I think the first one I watched that I thought had been well put together, paced well and left no ends dangling. I like the blocking and shot selection also (not intrusive or drawing too much attention to itself). I thought it was funny she told her daughter to go away with a) a football and b) play on her own with it. Nice parenting :) (probably what I'd do with a kid to be truthful)

The only thing which kinda bothered me was getting hit by the car - it could be me but everytime I see someone step into a road I expect them to get hit; and I knew he would be innocent. So this wasnt exactly unexpected.

But a minor gripe in an otherwise entertaining short film. Well done.

So I just watched this. I could not get to all the films during the fest but I've seen Jeremy all over especially recently so I had to click through and watch this.

Really great job. Nicely lit and amazing sound in the park. Maybe one part was ADRed? but can't say for sure.

Solid all around.

Kids are tough to work with, though she did pretty well ... 'nuff said.

Strangely ... I didn't care for Herman's score too much, and he is my goto guy for all my films, so I feel a little more comfortable saying that since I love everything else he's done. (hi Herman). Specifically I didn't like the happy times / playful music.

Brothers Tuttle you guys show a good command the vocabulary of filmmaking - the emotional impact, for example, of the slight pullback at the very end, and that sort of thing is used consistently throughout.

DARKLINE,
Thanks for the comments. You wouldn't believe some of the things we've seen parents do and it's not even that they're bad parents, maybe they just don't know any better. Yes the ending isn't going to surprise too many (search the web and you will find dozens of faked car hits... but it's not about the car hit as so much as the choices that the mother made caused the harm to an innocent man. But hey it was either a truck hit or a dinosaur attack... so we went with the former.

JACK DANIEL STANLEY,
Thanks Jack. That means a lot coming from you, we try our best. It's funny, people either hate the audio or they think it's great. Any way, thanks again for the comments.

Excellent short! I just watched it for the first time.

You never did post the BDS stills of the truck running the bum over, did you? I'm very curious to see them.

Thanks for the comment! Wow, I thought this thing was long and forgotten about.

I did start to work on some BTS but life and other new projects got in the way but I think I might revisit it. Really all we did was drive the truck really slow and hit the guy and he threw himself on the hood and did a nice head whip to make it even more dramatic and then in post we sped it up (I'll look to see by how much, I forget off the top of my head. Maybe 200 to 300%). Pretty simple really but once you know that when you watch it you can tell it was sped up... oh well. We wanted to actually go the dummy route but we thought it would unsafe (we didn’t want to break the windshield which we actually ended up cracking any way when we were recording sounds of objects hitting the truck) and it also would have added more to the budget that was all ready stretching our wallets.

Anyway, thanks again.

Well, good job. It looks really good. I just got done watching Macgregor's "18 Seconds" and at the end there's a run over scene as well, but there you can def. tell it was done post on after effects or something, whereas yours has a more realistic feeling.
