In an effort to get everyone's questions answered in one central thread, please ask all your Sci-Fest viewing and voting questions here. Thanks.

so when this i all done, we email the ballots back in should we call it like spidey-ballot.xls? or something or do we try to keep it all whos who?

That sounds like an excellent idea. So yes, everyone please return your ballots named as:username-ballot.xls

I had posted this in the voting thread, just as you were creating this Q&A thread, so I'm moving it to the appropriate thread- here is my question:

So I was thinking about the whole method for calculating the score- is the final total a median score? What I mean is this- Say film A gets one vote from the film maker and he gives himself 10's, and film B get's 10 votes, and they all give him 9's, what is in place to level the playing field with the different number of votes a film can get? (Since you do not have to vote for every film.)

On the "Ladies and Gentlemen..." thread, I believe there's a reference to some XLS-compatible freeware that may help. I'm also open to distributing the ballot in another format. I did create a PDF, but that left the issue of how to mark and return without faxing. Any suggestions?

Hey Barry,
Will the ballot be available in another format besides excel??

I asked this deep in another thread, but it seems appropriate for this thread:

Some of the films that are available now appear to exceed the 6 minute time limit. Why was that allowed? Are those films still eligible for prizes? Or perhaps the wrong version was put up for download?

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but what are we supposed to enter into the UserName column on the ballot? Do you want us to enter our username for each film?

Thanks,

Chris

We'll require a minumum number of votes for *all* films to call the winners. They'll be a spread in the # of votes, but no single or small number of votes will be able to significantly change the results. If necessary we'll extend the voting window until the film with the least meets the minimum. Howver' I don't thing it'll be a big issue.

Films that don't meet the entry requirements won't be eligible for prizes.

I concur.

I am going to repost my response to the same question from the other thread...

For whatever reason, the running media player clock is showing 6:02 for my film, "The Gaussian Project"...this must be a mistake due to rendering. If you notice the ETC (Ending Title Crawl) ends at precisely 5:59:30. I know this because I was meticulous in getting it in under time.

I didn't notice this with the others, but if this is the case with them...
I would ask you to look at the time for the ending of the film itself. As for myself, I have 2.7 seconds of unexplained blackness at the tail end of mine.

Chris- If you put your username in the top row it will autofill the whole column. Re: DQs We're not going out of our way to DQ films, so there will be a small leeway to account for encoding changes.

I dont have excel. I have an excel viwer, but it does not allow me to write on it, so a pdf will be a lot better, or maybe a web based system, as polls.

Also, when will the subforum be created for discussing?

And last question, now that the festival has started, are we allowed to show the films in public sites too?
Bye!

I don't know if it's just me... or my media players... but i'm getting some jumping/serious artifacting in a couple of the films, making them almost unwatchable. I'm going to try a couple things to see if it's just my computer, or what, but the one i just found would be The Man From Hollywood
