AdFest 2007

Overlandfilms, Dougspice + Norm, thanks for the thoughts, I've a much better idea of what direction this fest is going in

Guys... Just so you know, we don't sit around and think of what ideas would be fun to isolate as many people as possible.

There was extensive discussion about how best to do this next round so if you have any questions please ask Barry_S who should receive a huge kudos for everything he has done to ensure that these fests run with as little turbulence as possible.

its not like they did romatic comedy fest (but if they did i'd probably still be on board with my best ben stiller impression).

Are you kidding?

My GF loved that commercial and would sing along.

Plus:
talking dog? completely pedestrian

singing dog with back up birds? completely different story :)

Thanks! And I hope you didn't break up with her because of that. :) We actually had to re-record the song at the last minute because our original take was too close to the Tokens' original -- we had the publishing/recording rights, but not the performance rights. Glad I'm not a producer.

And now for some free advice for the masses (which is worth exactly what you're paying for it): Even at 30 seconds, most classic ads actually follow the 3 act structure. You certainly don't have to that in an ad, but if you find yourself stuck, try going there first.

Seems like a largely favorable response though.

Remember this is where both Scott brothers got their start and pioneered many in camera visual techniques that often thrill and occasionally induce migrains, which they are still using today.

Also Alex Proyas (Dark City) got his start in commercials.

Those are just some directors off the top of my head, sure there are lots more.

it's a tradition that includes Ingmar Bergman, but then they were longer than 30 sec

I've gotten paid to produce exactly this kind of product a few times, local stuff though--so this is a great excuse to shoot a pitch for another spot I was toying with. Sucks that I'd have to reshoot it if I was able to sell it after the fest, but maybe I could get a bigger budget that way...

Any other unhatched chickens I could count?

I have been trying to modify the last to posts to clarify ans correct erros, but it won't let me so....

to clarify, I meant can we make the logo 3D or stylize to fit our look... you know, stuff along those lines.:Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Doing a 3D version might be okay. But, if it's a LOGO I would think that changing the style/look or anything detrimental what makes it a logo, mark, insignia, proof of brand here-in or stampage would be a not-so-good. Savvy?

Yup!

Thanks!

I tell you DVXUSER fests are addictive!!!!

Well, I drove home, started taking inventory of the workload that I have (outside of Sleeper) and after only a few short hours of stating that I was in, it looks like I am going to bow out.

Lots to do and everything but Sleeper is paying work, so good luck all... I hope to check out your magic come August and hopefully I can free up the schedule to be part of the next fest.

I will update on Sleeper when I have something more to report... for anyone interested.

Good luck all! :)

re: judging criteria

Well, your fellow dvxusers will be doing the judging, so no need to overthink the criteria. Everyone has their own rules for judging the films. Larry and I will prescreen for blatant rules violations, but we certainly won't be judging.

Re: the logo

It will go up tomorrow night in AI, EPS, and TIF formats. Please please don't let the logo dictate anything about the product/company/brand--it will be fairly neutral. You must use the logo, but it can be adapted to your spot. It could be on a can or a shirt or a super or it can drop down and bounce or you can turn it into a little animated guy. Extrude it if you like and spin it around or set it on fire. But is should be easily identifiable as the original logo.

Don't we are in for this. The Heinz commercial is due about the same time but its worth $57,000 and our idea is pretty cast and post involved.

AdFest Help

AdFest Help

Anybody want to hop on board my AdFest project? I have the idea down and first draft of the script. It's pretty out there but definitely fun stuff.

I need a dp w/camera (no pref) and gear, preferably one who can also CC (you're the DP, you finesse your photography, baby!). This is a no-budget joint (just food and fun), but if we win and there's gear to be had, IT'S YOURS :). You don't have to be a "pro", just looking for talent and dedication.

Shoot tentatively scheduled for weekend of July 7th. Location is not locked down yet, but will be in Ventura County (Thousand Oaks/Camarillo area). There will be a small amount of greenscreen work, too.

If you fit the above description and are SERIOUS, please shoot me a PM for more info.

Cheers!
